Opponents FG percentage

I hate that we backed off and didn't rush that 45 yard FG yesterday. That dude had a sore leg, and his previous long was 42 yards. He's been erratic all year too, and we chose not to put any pressure on him.

Our STs is basic. Would really love to bring in a STs grey beard in the offseason and get that 3rd phase rocking.

Exactly what we should use the 10th spot on. Anyone know of any hybrid LB/ST coaches?

You could find someone easily on the NFL scrap heap. Great STs at UM can win us an extra game a year.

Not necessarily an NFL "grey beard", but you have Jeff Popovich currently working for the Indy Colts and it appears
he coached ST for one year at FIU.
Very smart dude who played multiple positions at UM.
Maybe someone to consider.

Indianapolis Colts: Jeff Popovich

This guy is more of a college "grey beard":

Berries' conservative approach to punt returns is killing me, he gave up tons of yardage yesterday not cutting kicks off

Berrios has done a great job as the PR. Very sure handed and 6th in the country in PR Ave. I guess you missed this years FSU game just to name one.

Seriously. People are starting the Berrios crap again? He's averaging 16.7 yards per punt return. That's amazing.

Basic is being nice. I wouldn't mind an offensive "analyst" in the booth and a ST coach toward the 10 on field coaches. There's not one aspect of special teams outside of Badgley's FG kicking that resembles even an early stage of Miami special teams.

Berrios is 6th in the country in PRs. Plus he almost always cuts the ball off instead of giving up yards. Soi we actually do a great job at PR returns.

Also covering punts. Feagles isn't good but we've given up -3 yards on the season.

"Fans" like you are just not very good at this

FPI ranks our ST's 117/121. They've been pretty crappy all season save for a few nice punt returns by Berrios.

In my opinion, we're not aggressive enough on special teams. We don't try to block anything. Garvin did a fine job of blocking the punt yesterday, but it wasn't a designed play - just all effort.

We've, once again, only been aggressive on defense.

We need to become more aggressive on offense and special teams to become a far more dangerous team.....

If I am not mistaken, opponents FG percentage is 100% this year. At this point in the season, when a team lines up for a FG I already put 3 on the board. Never seen the likes of it. I watched a Syracuse kicker slip and fall and make a 45 yarder. I watched a sorry NC kicker have a career day. This week we play a VT kicker who is 13 for 20 on the season. Somehow he will become Adam Veneteri this week.

What I have learned so far this season when watching Miami play are 2 things. No matter what, the opposing kicker will make all FG's. Not one offensive holding will be called on opponent.

we're plenty aggressive on offense

went for it on 4th and 13

and went into a 2 minute offense while we had the lead vs syracuse

That's a strange stat. Our opponents are 16/16, they are due for some misses.

I'm woefully under-impressed with our FG and Punt defensive special teams. This goes back to the GT punter scrambling laterally 20 yards on every punt with zero rush to the Cuse kicker (admittedly the kid seems like a future pro) getting off almost line drive FG kicks with zero pressure/interference. Hartley needs to step up.

If we're looking for an "NFL graybeard" a guy to grab could be Alan Lowry who was the special teams coach the Tennessee Titans for over a decade and a half and drew up the Music City Miracle. Idiotically fired for personal reasons by HC who's no longer there. After being fired the special teams went from one of the best to one of the worst in the league. Not a coincidence. He's currently coaching high school football outside Nashville. You hire him and I bet Jeff Thomas next year houses sh*t on the regular in the return game next year, he probably takes 20-30% of non fair catch returns for scores. Not to mention I bet Bethune-Cookman doesn't *almost* literaly take the opening kick straight to the end zone to open the season.

Exactly the kind of guy I'm talking about.

What makes it even more insane is that several of these FGs were not easy kicks. Would have expected at least 2 misses.
