Why is Butch the only viable option? And why is Chud the only viable option #2? Ruffin McNeil, Gary Patterson, Mark Dantoni and dozens of other guys not named Butch and Chud at places they can't win national championships are good options. Why does everything have to be so incestuous all the time? It worked real well for Coker and Shantard. And Chud is a complete unknown. 1 bizarre failed year as an NFL HC for a dope organization . The U has the money. Don't be naive to believe otherwise. They made coker the highest paid coach a decade ago. And they right more checks for botched extensions for bad hires across Football and Basketball than any other program I know. Just think about how much money they've spent the last decade on paying off Coker, Dee,Shantard, Clark , almost for Haith and now Folden. How much better shape would they have been in the ROI department by spending an extra few million.

Butch is great.... But let's be real, he's not the only one

Butch is a nationally known name . He knows talent and at UNC recruited alot of players that were high NFL draft picks. He knows defense and understands the South Florida mindset. He recruited the best college team of all time and people want to dismiss him. WIth a new president anything can happen. People absolutely ruling out Butch's return are being premature.

The next hire needs to be a can't miss. In the likelihood that the hire will need to be cheap once again or even cheaper, Butch Davis is the only answer. And, as far as the admin is concerned, he is not unhirable.

Several wild assumptions. I don't get this myth that we can pay competitively. We've proven we will pay competitively for both HCs and for assistant coordinators. And to say Butch is the only answer is silly. Many other options. Not saying it's a bad option but certainly not the only answer.

This is an embarrassing thread. The U only has one option? L-O-L . Battered wife syndrome has reached an all time low here.

Not really assumptions.

Shannon and Golden were paid under 2.5 million dollars. That is very much below the competitive level for a top tier coach. We haven't paid big since Coker and Butch, Dennis, and Jimmy were not paid at an elite level. Only Howard really was given big money.

Look back at the post and reread what I specifically said. Butch is the only answer that is a proven winner and cheap. If you have an alternate suggestion that meets that criteria, I'd love to hear it.

As far as other option, the program cannot afford to make another chance hire by selecting a coordinator or an up and comer at a lower tier school. We need to hire away another big time school's coach or somebody else who has succeeded at a high collegiate level and is available. Jim Leavitt comes to mind.
