There have always been talented kids who never played. But from my personal anecdotal observation, it seems that more kids are passing on youth football. Many are not capable of handling the discipline, tough love, and work. They are too used to doing what they want when they want.

Also, more people today at least try college because high paying, entry level jobs are much harder to find than in the past.

Many don’t graduate, but for these numbers it doesn’t matter.

Facts??? LOL dear lord. You showed a graph, WHY DID BLACK NUMBERS DROP?? Top 100 wasn't what the op was talking about. You moved the goal posts.

We got kids that were kicked out of the surrounding high schools like South Dade, Homestead and Southridge. According to my former co-workers there were quite a few kids at the local parks that could play in the NFL but because of grades never got to go to college. D1 schools have much higher grade requirements that they used to. Most coaches won't even bother looking at a kid's highlight tape or come see him if he doesn't have a high enough GPA in his core courses. The kids going to the D-2 and D-3 are there probably because those schools will take kids with lower grades. Gym memberships are most likely not an issue. Football is year round now. Football coaches in high school have the kids in conditioning programs during the offseason and usually have one assistant coach who has some level of training in training and nutrition.

And just an FYI, my niece, 34 act, 2nd in her class of 400+, 15 family members with degrees from UNC, got turned down at UNC. Can I get a list of people to blame, I know you have one handy. Facts are facts, if minorities aren't getting in top schools, the problem is simple, it is a MINORITY problem. A society that focuses on being hood, cool, entertainer, athlete, NOT EDUCATION. Well either her HS is trash or she had schitty extra curricular activities. Everyone has 34+ ACTs scores now. Did she not take the SAT? So you can blame her parental figures for not having her spend her time off working on ECs.

Naw, not for the school.

The youth leagues cost but if the coaches want a player, a way will be found.

A bigger problem is busy or lazy parents not taking the kids to practice, so the coaches bear the burden of transportation as well.

Oh I see. Up here it costs money to play sports until HS. Do a lot of kids from the PJs go to D3 and D2 schools? OR are just most of these kids not even graduating and the very few that go anywhere end up at d1 schools?

I think the same thing. Parents giving you benefits like coaching and stuff helps you get into college, but the playing field gets leveled in college and true talent shines.

Nope lots of guys went to smaller schools. NAIA all the way up to fbs. Most were fcs and d 2.

I was one of the knuckleheads that threw away a college career being shortsighted and undisciplined.

Guys who I dominated got full ride scholarships and degrees. When I was skipping honors classes and getting kicked out of I. B., these guys made gpa in regular classes and moved on to the next level . I knocked these dudes d*cks in the dirt everyday at practice!

I wasn’t high p5 caliber but I could have played lower level p5 and g5. Would have been a starter in fcs.

**** I should have been more focused. Lol
