One of the podcasts mentioned PJ Fleck as a possibility. Thoughts?

I know a lot of people won't like this but I would at least give Tom Herman an interview. Hes 49-22 as a HC and he really didn't do a bad job at Texas, he was 32-18 over there and was fired after going 7-3, he also won 4 straight bowl games. He's 46 with a lot of experience and connections and we could afford him.
Just don’t schedule Kansas.

He's an OK play caller, he knows how to identify & develop talent at WR. He has no ties to Miami/Florida though & can't really recruit. I would be OK with him if we hired some good recruiters around him ala Herm Edwards, but I doubt he's high on the list, plus his buyout is crazy.
Let me guess. What we need is a Miami guy that knows Miami talent, and can convince Miami moms to send their Miami sons to Miami? No. What we need is a **** good coach that can win, then go into Miami Momma's living room and show her he has a real plan for her Miami son's future. To **** with recruiters that can't coach. Like Bobby Bowden said, good recruiters are known as good recruiters because they can't be called good coaches.

Take him off the list. No excuses to lose to Bowling Green at home.

He’s another fake tough guy. Not likable at all. We don’t need faux bravado anymore. That’s been Diaz’s schtik and our program the last 15 years. Give me a real tough guy in Mario.

His record at Minnesota is average and a bit concerning. Was he a 1 hit wonder with that 11 win season?

5-7
7-6
11-2
3-4
2-1 (current year)

I know last year was a Covid season so things were different but I think how they bounce back this year will tell us a lot about Fleck. Would I take him over Manny? ABSOLUTELY.
He’s overrated and got way too much credit a couple years ago for the Minnesota job.

Edit. Nevermind. He's okay. If we take a Midwestern guy, I say Campbell and Fickell more. But if not Mario, talk Chris Petersen out of retirement. Money for him, money for his staff, money for analysts. Get it done. Hire an AD for football only so he only reports to him and not Blake.
Fleck is a fraud. Matt Campbell is the guy you’d want but he doesn’t seem like the type to take this job. Think he wants NFL.

Petersen is a weird guy. I’d be surprised if he came out of retirement at all, but certainly not to leave the west coast for a different world.

Respectfully - I don’t know that I’d call Fleck a fraud. Do I like his style and rah rah crap - no. Is he an elite coach - no. He will win though and occasionally pull off an underdog victory - but also lose (like yesterday). He’s got highs and lows. But he has rebuilt the gophers program to a better team then they were before and hasn’t been afraid to fire coaches when they are bad etc. I wouldn’t want him at Miami - but could see him continuing to advance his career. He is also a good evaluator of offensive talent and continues to find diamonds in the rough at most offensive positions.
