One area of major improvement for TVD

Quite frankly my next level of concern for him will be how he handles the waves of hype that the media will soon start dumping on him. His rise seems meteoric from a guy who looked lost in mop up time to a guy who is in total command of the offense and team. If that trajectory continues, I expect to start hearing his name be on the early 2022 hypesman trophy watch list. The off-field growth issues are tougher to gage than the on-field.
I don't think the hype will affect him this season because he's vocal and confident as **** in himself and the team. Now with that said the off-season is a different story because if this keeps up he will get NFL and Heisman hype added onto comparisons to all the former Cane greats so that will be huge but that's months from now so just kill it for the rest of the season

I kept trying to tell y’all King was making the Oline look a lot worse than they are.

TVD processing info fast, standing in there letting it rip.

I don't have the numbers, but from basic game watch, it appears he's done really well against Man. I think one of the bigger complaints against Lashlee's passing offense has been the route trees. To be effective against zone, TVD will need to scan more, our route combinations would need to be solid, and WRs will need to play smart, physical football. See the potential issues? Ha. I have no idea how it'll turn out, but it's an increased obstacle. Kaaya, for example, ran into trouble at first against zones.
Do you recall any Lashlee/King games where we saw a lot of zone? Any recollection of how we fared?

His footwork and ability in the pocket have gone from poor to almost perfect in a handful of games. Amazing progress.
this is what I see.. Esp compared to the UNC game where he was spraying the ball everywhere.. UVA lashlee really ****ed us first half by keeping cuffs on him and corching scared.. you can see the difference in ball placement over just a couple games.. incredible

This is just my general concern about every single Miami coach, player, and team. We consistently show flashes of potential. But we always find a way to disappoint.

I'm hopeful TVD bucks that trend but being the pessimist that I am, I wouldn't be surprised to see this offense completely sh*t the bed in 2 of the next 5 games (assuming we get to a bowl game).

i remember his first pass this year against Bama, it was a shallow cross right in front of him and he threw it a yard behind the receiver. made me doubt him.

he's come a long way and he's exceeded everyone's expectations.

He is shredding pressure. Pittsburgh sent several blitzes his way and he threw right at them. Against UNC and UVA, he was 3-13 for ten yards and a pick under pressure. The past two games, he is 10-16 for 164 yards with three TDs.

TVD is excellent in his preparation and now he has experience. Couple that with the physical tools, and we are seeing rapid progress.
I was one of the fans that said Garcia was a better choice. I was wrong. Garcia will get his chance in about 2 years and I sure he'll be very good. TVD has blown me away. Someone said Phillip Rivers was a good comp. I agree with that. I know, I know there's a long way to go but this team has taken off and he's a huge part of that.

Just going off a hazy memory, but I think VT is an example where King didn't do poorly, but was limited relative to his other outings (like NC State and Louisville). To be fair to Lashlee, we don't have a running game.

TVD has done a great work of cleaning up footwork problems early on against the pressure which has helped. When teams stop pressuring him it’ll be interesting as he has fared well in zone looks when we go empty. I thought he got a little impatient without the shot plays but seeing him progress so quickly I wouldn’t want to doubt him

I think @DMoney said he's a football junky which imo, is one of the most important aspects that a quarterback can have. It's also something that's obviously been missing at Miami for quite some time. That should help with the off the field stuff.

If his play forces team to do more zone, that should at least help our run game by keeping their safeties out of the box.

Nice to come down to earth a bit with the Kaaya comparison. But you're right, totally different players. Kaaya at his best was a game manager. TVD has a natural big play ability along with what looks to be good work ethic and excellent poise. This one feels different.
Yes. TVD is more toolsy but if he can get to the level of game manager that Kaaya was in his last year... that is the difference in being one of the top 3 QBs in the NFL draft at QB when he comes out and late round pick. Hesitant to say top 3 as idk when he'll come out (obviously depends how he plays next year) and who else is in this class.

He's definitely shown characteristics that say he can be a legitimate draft prospect with tools and gamesmanship. Seems bright, high football IQ, the NCST comments and backing them up, etc. He won on the road at Pitt but i think even as bad as FSU is.. going into Doak will be a different test for his preparedness and to see how he handles a hostile scenario.

But I'm not buying into it yet. It was just NCST and Pitt. I'll hold out on crowning him for now. I don't see a real test that can prove it for sure by playing a good team in a hostile environment.. might be until Texas A&M next year that he gets to showcase that.

The ol has improved pass blocking a lot too. They graded out as the best group in the Acc against NCSU.
