One AP voter’s rationale

At first glance it looks like a non-issue until playoffs. The issue is networks take the rankings into consideration when determining who to air in primetime and where they are sending the pregame programs like GameDay. That’s worth a lot of money in exposure. I don’t know if there is a legal cause of action though. AP really should take away her vote to show that it takes this kind of stuff seriously.
100%!

Add the impact on recruiting and the coverage and conversations in general as talking heads, podcast, etc only discuss and cover the highest ranked teams.

So a writer no one has ever heard of does something to provoke a reaction so it gets her name in the news. Not shocked at all.

In addition, this makes women reporters look bad, they have enough trouble trying to get credibility in sports to then have some idiot pull this stunt that will only lead to people saying women shouldn’t cover sports.

Exactly. Her carelessness about her vote will result in some (many) men wondering why a woman is even allowed to vote for something she seems to care so little about.

I have a slightly different perspective which is….

Further, when you consider that the higher-ranked teams are getting the “better” broadcast times and network coverage, and the new ACC terms (from the recent settlement) state that the teams with the highest ratings will generate additional income, this is completely unfair and should provide for compensatory damages.

But what do I know? I’m just a woman.

polls should only start around week 6 or so.
better yet we should get rid of polls and just go on the win loss records
