First of all, I'm firmly in the "fire Manny Diaz" camp. Was there long before Saturday night.
I'm also dumbfounded at our clock management at the end of the game, as are all of you.

In the "Can someone explain the last :58 seconds" thread, the consensus was that we should've let them score, as the likelihood we stop them from the 1 foot line 4 times in a row was so so low. Then we would have had :50 left and a timeout, instead of the :25 seconds and 0 timeouts. And hey, it's a rivalry game against a trash team, anything can happen.

As a fan I agree with that. All of it.
As a fan who was on my couch watching the game, I agree with that thought.

But to be a coach, IN THAT MOMENT, and to be a player IN THAT MOMENT, I'm not going to claim to know what that's like. Most of us don't know.

From the Herald today:
“You’re in a situation at times as a leader where there are no great alternatives,’’ Diaz said. “You’re simply choosing between the best worst alternative, and that’s kind of the way I feel about that sequence there. But our players were up for the fight.

“If you watch those plays and the way they were fighting and clawing and trying to keep those guys out of the end zone. Man, it’s tough to say, ‘Hey, you know what, let’s stop fighting.’ That’s a really hard one.”

But the play that haunts Diaz the most, of course, is the fourth-and-14 that FSU converted before the tough decision at the goal line.

It's gotta be so hard to, in a sense, tell your players to let your hated rival just walk into the end zone. What kind of message does that send to your team? As fans, we get it, but would the players take it that way too? Would they view it as giving up? Again I don't know the answers.

None of this should have happened though. There's no excuse for giving up 24 yards on a 4th and 14 that would have ended the game.

Trust me, this is no defense of our current head coach.
He's worse than Shannon and Golden. I hate him. Fire Manny Diaz yesterday.

All I'm saying is, in a weird kind of way, there might be a small part of me that says "I get it, try to stop them from scoring."

Even when I know in my head that that's wrong.

You tell your defense that they haven't stopped anyone all year so get the **** off the field and give the offense a chance to win it.

If the coach can't make a strategic call without the players not trusting that it's the right decision then you're fvcked as a HC anyway.

Manny was probably hedging his bets thinking he can still lose this game and maybe save his job but not if he loses trust of the defense making them think he doesn't trust them to get a stop and then they quit on him for 2 easy wins to close the season. That's all he's got going for him is the guys haven't folded over and quit.

For an analytics guy manny sure knows nothing about it. Obviously didn’t read the calling timeouts for dummies 101 book either that his daddy bought him

You apologize to the defense and say "Hey guys, that 4th and 14 is on ME. We're gonna let these pussies walk into the end zone now so we have enough time for TVD and Rooster and Rambo to win this **** and shut these ****hole stadium up and save MY ***. Let's GOOOO!!".

You just explained, better than anyone on this board, why Manny shouldn't be the head coach anymore. Your explanation of the situation is exactly what he went with and why we lost.

It's gotta be so hard to, in a sense, tell your players to let your hated rival just walk into the end zone.

It's really not if you want to win the game. That's the difference. Human beings do dumb things all the time based on irrational emotion. And if you're making that decision based on your PLAYERS emotions then you are a complete fool. The kids aren't the coach, you are. You're supposed to know better.

Should've never even come remotely close to this.

To be fair, we should've been blown out of the building with the way we started that game. But, FSU is terrible, so they let us hang around.

But you have a 5 point lead with 4:45 left, and you're receiving a kickoff. The game should be over. Period. ANY good football team ends the game right there. FSU doesn't see the football again. You need 3 first downs and it's a wrap. We actually got one on the first play. Then we **** the bed.

Diaz is pd 4 million a yr he should be smart enough to know what to do in all situations!!!

Just another example of Manny being more concerned about players feelings and being their friend than actually being the HC..

Maybe don't allow a 59 yard pass play and a conversion on 4th and 14 and you never have to worry about making that decision.

Make no mistake about it, Manny made the decision because his hubris tells him his defense will always make the play. It's the same hubris that told him to slow play recruiting because we'd roll through this season with just 1 loss (Bama). The same hubris that told him all the team had to do was show up and they'd kill FSU again like last year. He never considered another alternative, he's spinning now that he's had time to think it over. He genuinely believed his defense would come through because he's delusional. That alone is why he didn't let them score which would have been the better play, as we all know. Elite coaches make the call to let the other team score in that position.

The brain rot in Hecht is very real. Like have these guys actually observed ANY football in their lives? To say something so patently false is seriously insane.

Or Lashlee just thinks we're all morons.

If the players were brazen enough to question Diaz's decision to allow FSU to score and give the O a chance to win, then it means they have no respect for the HC. The HCs decision should be like the word of God and players should innately believe he is making the best decision to win the game. There shouldn't be any hurt feelings. They had 7 defenders on 3 receivers and still allowed a completion. The D had their chance to end the game on 4th and 14 and they blew it. Now the O needs to be given a chance to win the game.

I mean, has he ever seen someone line up for the go-ahead TD at the one inch line on first down when the D has 2 TO left and a FG would win or at worst tie the game with one min left?

Armchair-ing my ***. Bruh. Anyone with (or without) eyes knew we should just let them score as soon as they got the **** 4th and 14. Common **** sense.

Hey ******* (Lashlee), on 3rd and 4 you run a little dump off on the boundary to your tight end 2 yards short of the sticks. Pick up the first down and the game is all but over. Just brilliant.

What exactly is the point of this thread? To share with the board that you feel Manny's pain even though you know he was wrong and should be fired? FOH
