On Ny Carr...Staying at UM

Look at 2023. Major hits with Francis and Bain. Those were both pretty easy to project. Fletcher as well is a hit. After that? lol

Yeah, overall not impressive. NIL era or not, half of the top 100 players signed from the 2022-2024 classes were gone by year 2. That seems like a bad miss rate. Whether it's bad evals, not being developed, etc., those are supposed to be the core guys to build your team.

Compare them to being a teams 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks in the draft. They should be the foundation of the team you are building. You can't miss on half of them and succeed long term. As it is, we aren't signing anywhere near enough top 100 players (compared to the best programs) to lose the few that we do sign.

Did Emory get praise while Cam was riding the bench?

And how many WRs can play at once, compared to QBs?

You don't think it's a good idea to say some nice things about our 2nd string QB when we have nobody else to turn to? You think that Mario and the coaching staff should have said nothing about Emory?
I think you can be positive about a guy without building up the impression he is more than he is. That's why the bowl game was such a shocker for the fan base.

Tell me what you know, objectively, about Ny Carr's performance this spring.

I'm not even asking this rhetorically. Has anyone heard anything about Carr having a good spring? I'm not the only one at practice. The spring game was wide open to the public.

First, don't take things personally. I can tell you with 100% certainity you aren't reporting a lot of things. And or skew things at times with orange and green goggles on. I get it, it's your bread and butter, but I know the truth. How? I am just as connected to this team as you are. And I say that without hesitation.

Second, the spring game was an absolute joke. If anybody took anything away from that, they should go sit in a corner. Not to mention, all spring this offense was run by 2 QBs who have no business being on scholarship at UM and another who should be getting ready for his senior prom.

At the end of the day, I understand there are definitely certain things you and others can't report, but the hype, fluff, and than ultimate cover up is too much and really needs to stop.

This. Don’t sweat the Ny Carr departure.

Sure it would be nice to keep him and see if he develops, but we don’t have the luxury of waiting and kids no longer have the patience to stay.

Different era.

Good luck, kid.

This is the modern game. If you’re going to command a big NIL package as a recruit, you’re going to have to prove your worth. Coaches aren’t just evaluating recruits and transfers anymore, they’re constantly evaluating their own rosters. Is a guy making enough progress to justify his payment? If no, you have to make adjustments. The portal gets seen only as a tool for players but it can be a useful tool for coaches to move on from players they no longer feel are a good value. I don’t know if this was the case for Carr but it sure does look like it. They’re going pretty hard after receivers in the portal. That usually means someone isn’t progressing at a level the staff deems acceptable.

Think of it like an NFL team that doesn’t have to honor a free agent’s entire contract. You sign a guy to a 5 year deal but after one season, he’s just not worth the contract so you can just move on from him without paying any type of buyout or taking some kind of salary cap hit. It can keep short term bad investments from becoming long term bad investments

I genuinely wonder if this seems more of a miami trend because that is who we tend to focus on or if it is more so simply the landscape of NCAA now.

Just for fun I pulled up 2023 classes to compare.

OSU top signees:

Carnell Tate (hit but TBD if he lives up to 5* billing, I think he is solid but not great)
Innis (looks like a bust thus far)
Noah Rogers (Transfer)
Malik Hartford (Still on team, no pics only 4 tackles last year)
Jelani Thurman (still on team, 4 catches for 42 yards in his career)
Calvin Simpson (transfer to Baylor)

UGA
Jordan Wilson (looks like a bust, appeared in 6 games last year as a reserve, zero starts, 4 tackles, no sacks)
Raylen WIlson (see what he does this year, one start at LB last year, 47 total tackles)
AJ Harris (Transfer to Penn State)
Joenel Arguero ( decent player, started 5 games last year, 17 tackles, zero INT)
Monroe Freeling (still on team, started 4 games last year, TBD)
Damon Wilson (transfer to Mizzou)
Troy Bowles (transfer to Michigan)

I didnt include Bama, we all know they lost Caleb Downs but I feel they are an outlier with losing Saban but looking at these lists of the top 100 guys seems to not be drastically different than us. Few reserve guys, few transfers and 1-2 hits.

We're starting to see a pattern with these Miami Portal departures: talented players who had coaches genuinely excited at one point, but plateaued in their development and struggled to get on the field this spring.

Carr is a guy I loved in spring '24. He got open consistently and made plays from Cam Ward and others. Over time, his inconsistency became a concern and his body was slow to develop. This led to some nagging injuries, including missing significant time this spring (like Josh Horton and Zaquan Patterson). Carr's absence allowed guys like Malachi Toney, Josh Moore and Daylyn Upshaw to thrive, and his '24 classmate JoJo Trader jumped to another level physically and in terms of consistent production.

Given his price tag, the urgency of modern college football, and Carr's eagerness to play, the sides parted ways. I never heard a bad word about him, and he has a chance to produce at his next stop if he physically matures. In my opinion, this would be a player to target in the Portal for other teams.

I suppose this is where I'm showing my age and possible reluctance to accept changes, but I can remember the 1983 National Championship football team having starters on the team who were
at one point presumed career backups or busts at best during their first couple of years. Two on the Oline and the other being a TE and yet they blossomed into very good team members.
There were others all over the years.
I don't get this lack of patience by fans, players and apparently coaches too.
I blame the players for quitting on themselves as much as I blame the coaches too for encouraging this behavior as well.
The entire college athletic landscape has gone bonkers.

Also this another reason everyone really needs to take EVERYTHING that is reported by ANYONE covering UM, about any young guy "looking great", to hear months later they have somehow plateaued with a grain of salt. That is not the truth. Mario has complete control of everyone covering UM and has fed what he wants fed.
But we legit barely ever heard Carr, Patterson, Horton, etc mentioned whatsoever throughout spring, aside from the 'really like his potential' type of lines. When the other guys are getting praised in reports it's usually like they made plays.... Generally what would be the reason to NOT praise Carr if he were excelling like JoJo? I can't think of any. Like obviously the Staff would want him to be a stud lol. Also there's a difference between believing all the hype in reports and never getting mentioned in them. The latter isnt a good indicator of their position in the depth chart and whether they have taken the next step. But yeah like obviously don't believe all the praise...

The fact is he was a top recruit and this very highly paid I imagine. He didn't turn it on this spring apparently which hey everyone develops at a different pace. But everyone here wants us to get impact guys in portal to take every young guys job and not just hand it to them, but then when they don't get it aren't in line for PT are shocked when they portal out or when we can afford to pay them to sit the bench for 2 years before being in the same position next year hoping for their leap... In which case all the moped on here will be right back to saying we NEED to get proven portal guys ahead of them .. it's a cycle.

These top rated guys have 1.5 yrs to crack the 2 deep and be heavy rotational players. If not they are likely too expensive to keep around or they want PT somewhere themselves...

Share your insight then if you are that connected to the program

I can name you 40 guys who haven't been praised or talked about at all during spring. Have they all plateaued? Should we let them all walk?

Are they All making a lot of money?
Are they all in the 2 deep or not?
Are they all looking to transfer out to get PT right now?
Are they all at positions that we are looking to add in portal to push them further down the depth chart?
How many of those are freshman which should absolutely be excluded?

Bro we can't stop them from entering the portal if they want. Everyone wants to build the best roster they can and for us to add in portal at every position we currently are weak. Losses should be expected. You just try to limit the ones you don't want... Unfortunately Carr left. Is what it is

Listen, I have seen your posts enough to know you are the ultimate apologist and excuse maker. You are the exact person I was referencing as to it wouldn't matter what insight I brought, you would roll with what you want to roll with anyways. That's cool. Enjoy believing what you think you know, when you have absolutely no clue.
