On Jamar Thompson…

I don't argue that maybe these DTs are better than their ranking,my point is we haven't spent bit on DTs compared to other postions like DE,WR and CB.If we don't flip a big NIL DT in this class then there should be a good chunk to spend on a big time portal DT and that was the strategy all alon

Ya I hear ya…Maybe it's a matter of choice. Maybe (and I don't know) we think outside of 1-2, per season that the DT pool is just deeper and less difference in 3 and 4*s and more important to spend on DE/CB studs, etc

Need more DT's and DE. Shockingly we are recruiting the skill spots better than trench bullies.
Must be NIL allocation. We're bringing in 5* at CB,WR,DE but 1 top 20 type at DT and 2 3 * projects, last year 1 high 4* in Stancil and the other 4 DTs 1 low 4* and 3 3* project types. We need to bring in more impact types at DT or we will see a major drop off soon.
Yea we have been whiffing in the trenches in certain spots that we need ASAP. Anyone we target in the trenches the SEC doing anything it can to stop it.

But again…What if we just disagree with the services on the kids we did bring in? I mean Josh Johnson was offered early in the process. Remember we also hit on lower ranked Simpson who is now doing very well at Mizzou.
Speaking of Simpson. Massive grain of salt with pff (who would tell you Moten has sucked this year), but these are still bummers

Simpson was a dog for sure idk how we can’t get these beasts to stay. Idk why we can’t get that spot right. We have money so idk wtf is going in there

I’m just about as pro-player in every sport as you’ll find.

Absolutely the **** not.
The transfer portal is open from 1/4-1/13. By the time Simpson would have entered the portal, most teams would have already found the players they wanted.

Simpson probably still finds a home, but the options are more limited and the negotiation leverage is not the same. Most players are advised to do this if they aren't a starter.

He was a rotational player at an important position on a team competing for a national championship. Bailing in the middle of the playoffs was absolute **** ****.

He could have hit the portal after the season as it would have opened up for our players for an additional 5 days. The market at that point would have even less supply and demand for DT’s is never going down.

There’s not an argument for this.

But at the same time it's hard to complain about our DT play the last couple seasons. I agree with you I'd feel better if Simpson were in the top 4 right now.
So mad about Simpson, they did that right under our nose during a playoff run. Crazy recruiting

Yeah

But bailing on the team mid-playoffs was some real **** ****.
Lame as **** that they pulled that **** and we were left hanging. And he was balling on green tree they said

There is a massive argument for this.

There are literally dozens of players who do this every year and no one thinks 5 days at the end of the cycle is the same as a full window. You maximize your options and value by maximizing your portal window. Oregon had a player enter the portal before the semifinal game!

31 players in total did it from Final Four teams last season.

Simpson played two snaps against Virginia Tech and four snaps against Pitt. He was rotational-ish at best.

I didnt know he was only 6'1..****. Maybe we can swing back later if he proves he can hang in the ACC at GTech. Like Mario said once, "You want to be the runner-up in any recruits decision these days".....he was right. You never know what can happen down the line especially with the transfer portal the way it is... Look at Jacquez Carter.

I DONT KNOW HIS VERIFIED NUMBERS THIS WAS EYEBALLING HE LOOKS CLOSER TO 6'1 THAN 6'3.

Thats not a bad thing though because the leverage is needed at dt and he would be a guy i place at the o or 1 technique. Jacquez Carter s about 6'1...and the dt from delaware we got in last class.

Donta tried to shake down Mario prior to the Texas A&M game in early to mid December for more NIL. Mario of course isn't going to play ball, and it would have been a culture issue had Mario bowed down and fulfilled his NIL demands. Now another 100K or 200K may have prevented him from entering the portal.

Mario being petty just throws him on the availability report prior to every playoff game thereafter. It was clear at that point he was gone.

Hits portal in January, ends up with nice NIL deal. I'm sure the old Miami staffers at Missouri had anything to do with it, ha but anyways he is now balling in his 2nd year.

In the end Simpson leaving will force Miami to hit portal for big ticket DT that will probably cost Miami 1.5-2 Million.

In reality the Simpson situation playing out will cost Miami probably 1.5 million and they may not even get a player as talented or as good a replacement, but I thinking Mario couldn't allow players to negotiate NIL deals during playoffs if he has any sort of culture or locker room.

If this was the case, Mario was absolutely right to stand his ground. In the middle of a playoff run, it's extremely selfish to be worried about an increase in NIL. Everyone, and i mean everyone, staff and players, should be locked in on the gameplan for the next opponent.
