On Campus Stadium Question

I completely forgot about Sun Life getting renovated. Who knows, it could make it pretty awesome. If they can move the seats closer and they put those sun blocker deals on the top it could seem to be a completely different atmosphere and be all we need as far as game day atmosphere.

Can't move seats closer, can only add new seats closer....90% of seats will continue to suck

Not sure how much closer but it's something I guess.

*all new seats
*a shade canopy
*new video boards in each corner of the stadium
*concourse improvements
*concession improvements
*moving 3,600 seats closer to the field
*adding high definition lighting

Not ideal but better I guess. Supposed to be done in time for the 2016 season.

Came across Iowa State's stadium plans. Looks nice.

The irony is the driving distance from the UCLA main campus to the Rose Bowl is almost identical from the University of Miami to SLS. Traffic to the Rose Bowl is awful. I'm sure they fixed it and it's been years since I've been to the Rose Bowl but it was hard to access as well.

so you are comparing the Rose bowl. possibly THE most renowned stadium to Sun life?

I keep hearing about how the Rose Bowl is a dump and horribly outdated, like you heard about the Orange Bowl in its last days. And it's further from UCLA (26 miles) than the Sun Life is from Miami.

It is funny you ask this.

In the same meeting I asked Donna about our coaching staff, someone else asked about an on-campus stadium. Her exact words were "I have been fighting that off for years. Unless students want to give up the IM fields then it won't happen".

There is enough space. Coral Gables isn't the problem. The school's leadership is. She flat out said she has been fighting this for years.

Wrong. CG is a huge problem.

Also, regarding the space, that's up for debate. The IM field is woefully inadequate to put a stadium in unless you're looking for a 15-20k stadium, even that is impossible. The IM fields account for less than 10 acres. Look at what it takes to build a stadium with parking lots.

I don't believe there is space need in CG, but there is enough space in nearby areas not in CG (south miami, etc). Doesn't have to be in CG.

How about South Miami or Homestead or somewhere in between? Or somewhere accessible to Metro-rail? Tropical Park is probably the best and most feasible site.

Dude, this is coming from her mouth. I didn't say any of my opinions.

People keep saying Tropical Park is a bad idea b/c of the choke points in traffic, but I'm not sure that will be the case. It's surrounded by a major highway on one side (Palmetto), 2 main roads (Bird and Miller) and they would need to add a couple other access points.

That's fine. She may have said she's fighting off the idea of an on campus stadium but CG is also a huge problem. Also, there's no space on campus to field on on campus stadium so what exactly is she fighting against? A non-issue?

Lol take the IM fields. Move intramurals to a nearby park or some ****. It's not like we use them for anything beyond frat sports and as a way for freshman to get high at night.

I've been to Miami many, many, many times to go to games, hang w/ my frat, etc...and Miami's traffic ain't no different than Los Angeles traffic. Getting to the Coliseum is a major pain, but getting to the Rose Bowl, nestled right outside of a residential neighborhood in Pasadena, is an absolute nightmare...but guess what? When UCLA is winning, that joint is sold out and folks are making the arduous trip there. We gotta just pony up the money. We can have a very nice multi-faceted facility that can hold 47-50k of fans. We reserve one game out of the year to play at SLS for the big match up like Texas and Oklahoma does at AT&T stadium in Austin and everyone's happy.

TX/OU is in Dallas every year, in the Cotton Bowl, which is not in AT&T stadium in Arlington, nor is it in Austin.

I wasn't saying that TX played OU at AT&T stadium...i was saying they each play one big game at AT&T stadium a year but that was incorrect...Only UT play one big game in Arlington at AT&T Field...this year it was UCLA.

We need at the minimum a 50k stadium..think along the lines of Gatech. Also this **** aint happening in the gables

Nikkoum made some very very valid points as did other posters. Tropical park is the place

3 points...

I'd like someone to explain the reasons tropical park is so hands off. They have highway access, ample parking, and already have a high school stadium. It can totally work from a technical standpoint.

If you've attended graduation at BUC, you'll know why the IM fields won't work. That little side road next to the psych building that hugs the fields gets absolutely clogged with even minor events. It's a nightmare to get onto US1.

This is a project by a UM architecture student. Should give all y'all stiffies...http://kawneer.aias.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/3463.pdf

What would the city of coral gables be with out the university of Miami? If the school closed tomorrow, what would happen?

Since no one goes to Marlins games, we should just demo that stadium and put ours there.

I bet we could get 60-70k capacity. We could even have an open end zone that looks out onto downtown Miami.

If we're really entertaining this idea, you'd have to tear down the old freshman dorms, cafeteria, and probably the gym. You'd then have a considerable amount of room between the road and the BUC for the stadium and some parking garages. That's pretty doable. The hurdle would be Coral Gables, as it always has been.

Having a water front stadium on Biscayne Bay over looking the city of miami skyline is still the sexiest thing imaginable and even beats an on campus stadium imo.
