2027 Oluwasemilore Olubobola 4* OT from Jersey City, NJ (St. Peter's Prep) Commits to Notre Dame

And after Spring, Mario and Mirabel can't feel that same way with what they saw with Cantwell, Ervin, Wilkerson, and Cogdnon? Or, what they expect they have with Merriweather and Hawks?

All that while also aggressively throwing money at Matthews and pushing for his commitment
That's the game now big bank take little bank! Welcome to the NIL. GABOS

Wouldn't we have Cogdnon, Hawks, Merriweather, Joel Ervin and Wilkerson competing for that spot in 27?

Looks like some depth pieces there with at least two of those guys getting reps in 26 as swing OTs or extra TEs like we did with Samson in his frosh year and Ryan last year.
True yet every single one of those guys are unproven at the position. One or more might step up but I wouldn't be surprised to see a portal add.

Agreed. All I'm saying is the coaches have seen 14 practices worth of reps with most of these guys and have a clearer picture of what they probably have compared to any of us.

If this were Al Golden or Manny Diaz, I'd be concerned. But Mario and Mirabel have give us proof of concept already while here (more than once) so I'm inclined to defer to their judgement rather than say a whiny ***** like Ariz

Looks like the staff is going all in on Matthews
Samuel L Jackson What GIF by Coming to America

Man hit the **** button

****. Might be dipping into portal for RT starter next year

I would assume

Wilkerson, yr 3
Olu, possible kick out
Cantwell, 3 yrs removed from HS
Ervin, year 2
Congdon year 2
Merriweather

Could not onlyl be viable options at RT, but even the lowest on the totem pole at this group is probably as far or future along than 18 or 19 yrs old Olu next year…But who knows if right one is available in the portal we may make look there.

LMAO at this line of thinking for two players we know absolutely nothing about besides some publicity about congdon being a surprise at guard.

Just a ridiculous mindset for a program trying to remain with the big boys

But your assuming Olu, who is rather new to the game…Is going to solve the RT issue next year?

Also are you an idiot?

neither of these kids would start here as freshman...him nor matthews

I agree mostly, but I think there is an outside shot Matthews does. We have other options as well, but I think Matthews would compete where as Olu is a bit more raw.

And he’s right if the two true freshman you mention who have not played a collegiate snap or were not even big time prospects can’t play tackle next year

we have a left tackle in cantwell. No one has any clue what else we have at tackle in future. So yes the portal is very likely next year for a RT. That is obvious

Imagine thinking Olu would have changed this

You are lost.

I never said Olu would change this or would start here. I was pointing out the fact that poster said “nothing to worry about we have Ervin and congdon”

If you believe that line of thinking you are the one who is lost

I don't get the sense Miami was all-in on Olu at the price tag. Matthews is a different story.
Makes sense, especially if he’s not a day one starter. Seems like we’ve learned that lesson from the Samson recruitment

OK but how does Olu for next year change that?

New prediction logged for Olubobola

Update 10: am ET: After continuing to talk to sources, I’ve moved my pick from the Aggies to Notre Dame. Conversations have intensified with Olubobola and the Irish since the spring game visit. Meanwhile Miami is zeroing in on other targets and I don’t expect him in the Hurricanes class.

We’ll see if LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss or another make a move but rightnow the Irish are trending. Simmons and my prediction reflect that.
Who is this quoting?

Would have been nice to get Olu as a prospect ala Samson, but I think we’ll be fine with that miss.

But I think it increases (if that’s possible) our efforts on Mathews.
Is the bag the be all, end all for Mathews? Or is early playing time a factor? I’d be curious to know if he would be a for sure starter as a freshman with 8&4. Because I’m fairly certain that we are not guaranteeing him a starting position as a freshman. He’d have to come in and beat out Congdon/Ervin/Wilkerson next year and I’m not sure that’s going to be an easy task.
