OL Moves

SJ gets pushed back but Fletcher has a hole right up the middle if he sees it.

All 22 shows everything. Wish I had access to it. Things really show up on film review.

My brain with SJ is he is one of those guys on the team who knows everything in theory, but when you get on the field, he doesnt have the instinct and street smart to figure it out. He probably has all the answers to the book test AR was talking about with D$. Which is why he keeps playing. Its really hard to watch after 6 games to see the same thing. Not being bullied because he is small, but simply running into a gap and not even blocking anyone. Samson had the luxury of sitting, but looking at the OL at midseason we can question why more effort wasn't made to bring in more experience. This line is probably good enough to win the ACC, beyond that, its questionable. We got all we could handle v WF. And they are a good team, nothing we should be struggling to get 1 first down against in 5 drives or whatever that was.

Without drastic improvements, we will reach a dead end at some point.

It's not the same thing. Is it championship level execution? No. Let's not create bull**** in order to justify a narrative against SJ.

For the record, I flung a lot of cowschidt at SJ after the first few games. I meant it and he deserved it. I mention this because for me to come around and (sort of) defend him ought to say a lot. SJ has improved. Again, not anywhere close to elite level, but let's not pretend he hasn't gotten any better.

Also, and this has nothing to do with your post, can we please stop leaning into PFF so much on their lne grades? For the love of God, please? Just a little?

Sounds a lot more logical and exactly what I saw. We're the inverse of a year ago and probably most of the Mario era. We're more effective in ground game (with the exception of short yardage) and we can't pass protect.

They haven't figured out passing off a stunt yet. Across the board. Samson and Congdon might be the worst side by side duo on the line when it comes to that. McCoy and SJ pass them off about 50%. Samson and Congdon haven't done one right yet.

The crazy part about this is last season we averaged 151 yards rushing per game. This season we are up to 226 yards per game. Yes i know we had 16 games and against elite opponents especially in the playoffs. But we also was a better rushing team in the playoffs than in the regular season.

And our OL was as experienced as it could get. I think we should be reasonable with the criticism.

So I didn't see him loop into the gap and block no one? That's not what was on the clip? And I never said he never improved. Matter of fact I just made a post that we are averaging 226 yards rushing compared to last season where we averaged 151.

The amount of missed opportunities because either the line couldn’t hold up on a pass rush or the RB picked the wrong gap is wild. Miami should have scored 70pts.

Got to clean that up. Mali is running wide open all night

Worst pass-pro game of the year on rewatch. Still need to go through a couple things but we really struggled in pass pro, relatively speaking. It wasn't an abomination, hence the fact we threw for 320 yards, but Mensah escaped very well to overcome what could've been a worse night. I wouldn't say it was awful, but it was the worst of any game we've played so far.

We are in October.... not one of Mario’s best months of any season ... just win and don't muck things up.
Remember SMU last season coming off a bye... at least we won this time

That is 1/80 snaps. Do you know who he was supposed to block when he pulled? He overran the gap, tried to block #9, who I think may be the responsibility of either Samson/KONG. Freeze the clip before SJ crosses Samson and you'll see Kong looking squarely at #9. Without being in the meeting room with the OL, it becomes a guess. You MIGHT be right. You might not be. Your comment about seeing him block no one is indeed correct, but without knowing the backstory, how can you, me or anyone know whose fault it is.

Your complimentary post came after my comment to you.

Don't mean to come off as venomous toward you.

I'll leave it at that

maybe already posted but once again tried to follow what the playcall was instead of the open hole but also SJ missed on a complete whiff.

Yes, this is a bad rep, but I just went back and charted it and SJ pulled on 11 running plays against FSU. He successfully blocked on 8 of them. Whiffed on two. On one he neither whiffed nor got a block as Fletcher got tackled from behind first. We ran for 86 yards on all 11 plays (7.8 ypc), and 9.75 ypc on the successful SJ pulls. Not saying SJ was the reason for these plays success (or lack thereof), but when he misses a block on a pull it gets clipped and no one ever clips or mentions the plays that the kid does his job on.

111:01 2nd QY7 yards
28:58 2nd QY3 yards
312:53 3rd QN3 yards
411:41 3rd QY8 yards
511:11 3rd QY2 yards
68:48 3rd QY25 yards
74:03 3rd Qinc2 yards
810:14 4th QY30 yards
96:18 4th QN3 yards
103:28 4th QY2 yards
111:22 4th QY1 yard

New drinking game. Every time Mensah gets sacked, throws away or has to hit the check down and the announcers saying Toney was wide open we drink. Because Jones said it like 15 times Saturdays night.

Mensah was pressured alot. Losing Max hurt because he was growing into the role and Ben has been a positive.
No one wants to talk about how he’s supposed to be starting and now we have it deal with SJ. Hopefully he gets better quickly or meriweather improves.

outnumbered on this run. You have a safety coming down along with the nickle/backer coming from space unblocked. If they had a chance to run this over, I would imagine the frontside double team would have added one to the count and doubled to #9.

The issue with going faster than normal at times is the defensive fronts get muddy. This is an example where they don't have everyone accounted for.
