OL Moves

DMoney mentioned how we just look smaller on the Oline this year. Pancake has been good but he’s not Bell or SiSi size wise. SJ is obviously undersized.
nd move Pancake to guard every three series or so? This would immediately give us more size and could be our highest ceiling line. If they want to try this out, they need to do it asap so we can get Cantwell some experience before the stretch run.
It doesn’t seem like they’re willing to play Jackson’ at RT, so should we start rotating in Cantwell at LT a
Moving OL around -- particulalrly rotating every 3rd series -- during a game generally isn't going to bode well. How long you think a DC will take to figure out tendnaces from that? Playing this late in the season, still trying things, still not knowing what we have and who the best five are, playing as a "unit," may catch up with us aganist some of the D-fronts we will face.

We had almost 600 yards of offense and 250 was on the ground. Line is not as good as last year but it’s been better since Congdon started at LG.
Exactly, but some posters act like the O-line is in complete disarray. All the run-game explosives came off the left side of the O-line, but Sampson didn't have his best game... are you kidding me?

The pressure was coming from the outside, but SJ was consistently getting pushed back so Mensah would often not have room to step up in the pocket. DMoney even made this point on the pod yesterday. SJ wasn’t a disaster like he has been in other games, but he’s still a consistent liability.
I can't believe there are people saying he wasn't that bad or even saying he played well. I guess there were watching a different game.

Sampson played his worst game here and it wasn't even that bad. But let's not come on here saying SJ wasn't bad. He's holding this OL back.

It never fails to amaze me that two coaches with a combined 60 years experience in OL play know less that a bunch of peope, if handed a jock, would put it on like a man bun holder.
I guarantee you that if you gave Mario some truth serum he would admit they overvalued what they had in the OL room for this season and made a mistake by not being more active in the transfer portal. It has to hurt Mario’s soul to roll out SJ at OG.

LOL nobody was saying that about Congdon, they were actually saying he is more ready then Cantwell
He wasn’t in the rotation in one of the early games and people were complaining about it, and some replies were, “we’ll he must not be ready.”

Don’t meant to call out this poster because maybe Congdon wasn’t ready but just pointing out there were certainly people question or saying he isn’t ready.

100%, I thought that was the biggest lost, Lane screwed us over big time. That move right there we win the natty, now we will get eliminated cause the OL is not good man its just not. Anyone saying otherwise is a homer
This is 100 percent right. The OL is just not good enough to make a deep playoff run unless there's significant improvement.

And honestly, I don't expect significant improvement. People can make themselves feel better by saying, “Well, every team is a step down this year,” but it takes time for teams to reach their potential and round into form. Look at UM last year. Unfortunately, I just think the ceiling with this OL is pretty low, while other teams have more room to improve.

I'm just enjoying the ride at this point. I hope we finally win the ACC and put that narrative to bed. Best case, we clinch a bye, win a quarterfinal game, and make the semis. That'll keep the momentum going.
Big facts

It would be a ******* miracle this team wins the natty. We lacking up front man oh man Seaton and Lowe would of taken this **** to the moon

Fair enough. I'm curious as to what the issue is. What has to happen for him to be ready?
Unlike Cici, he did not come from a highly competitive high school environment. The dude is from Missouri man. It’s just simply getting used to the speed of the game and that takes time. It’s not gonna be this year, unfortunately.

Everyone gets pushed back here and there, man. But overall, he played a good game and he was excellent in run blocking. I believe he will be our guy until Buchanan comes back.

There's a scientific reason for why the OL looks smaller this year.

It is smaller this year.

There are so many ******* receipts in this thread that I will sift through at the end of this season. You've been warned.

I don't know if we are gonna win the natty or not. One dumb/weird play and you can get knocked out, be it round 1 or in the Final. What I do know is that the OL play has indeed improved. Granted, the IOL play looked dreadful after the first three games and that includes Buchanon. Therefore, improvement, to some degree, was inevitable. Guess what? The best OL gurus on the planet did their thing and the OL has improved. Is it where it was last January? No....and that's the problem. So many of the (negative) commenters on here are comparing what they're seeing after 6 games in 2026 to the OL that came up 40 yards shy of #6. That OL had 3 guys drafted and I believe 4 of them are in the pros now (Brockermeyer practice squad). Last year's OL should be the goal, but is it fair for it to be the expectation right now? I don't think so. Hope yes, expectation no. Not after 6 games. Not with a true freshman, and two second year guys taking a lot of snaps. Not with Buchanon now out with what I suspect was a torn meniscus (I do NOT know, but timeline and experience point that way).

Instead of hate-watching the OL, subconsciously rooting for SJ to end up on his back like a turtle so that your dumb take on CiS can be right, try watching objectively. Try recognizing his good plays in addition to his fucc ups. You know, be fair? Instead of mentioning Seaton's name for the 428th time this season, ask yourself who else we missed on in the portal? Specifically, which OGs transferred out and are playing at an elite level at an elite P4 school? There's not some limitless supply of 6'6" 330 lb monsters with three years of starting experience at a p4 school out there dying to come to The U at a discount.

In @BeastMode defense, Congdon was so poorly graded against FAMU because of the garbage time snaps when he was at tackle, where he was really bad.

My biggest criticism of how we handled the OL room from Fall camp on is that we wasted time futzing around with Cantwell at Guard (he was our 3rd guard against Stanford) and wasted time giving Congdon reps at Tackle. I'm willing to give the coaches a pass on SJ at LG. I assume he was much better on Greentree than he showed in games to start the year. With how good Congdon has looked at LG and all the buzz around him early in Fall camp, it's harder to buy that he shouldn't have been the 3rd guard to start the year.

I think you're missing a small but important component - these kids are young. I mention this because I was standing next to Congdon's mom near the player bus after the Stanford game. Congdon came over and talked to her for a couple minutes. I heard him say "yeah I was really nervous going out there...." This is a 6'8" beast saying this. He's 18 years old. He's from Smallsville, OH. I liken it to the first time you held a booby in your hand or the first time you got some panocha. "Nervous" would certainly be on my list of feeelings for that moment. After you do it a few hundred times, it's still exciting, but the newness wears off and the nervousness vanishes.

Congdon is an even better example than SJ of player development. It just takes time.

SJ is not a P4 player. What's going to happen when Miami plays much better DL's? Your C and LG are 6 foot nothing 290 lb or less. We were spoiled with the OL's the last two seasons. It's a **** shame Buchanan got hurt because he was coming along nicely. I would feel a **** of a lot better if it was Samson, Ben, RR, Buchanan, and McCoy with Cantwell and another body rotating in like Samson and McCoy did for 2 years.

He looks like a P4 player when he's pancaking dudes....which he did do. I'm not trying to cape for the dude even though I can see how some might think I am. I too would fel better with Max at RG, KONG at LG and the rest how you wrote. Guess what? Max is hurt. If Merriweather was better than SJ, I would like to believe the two guys who know more about OL play than you an me combined would be smart enough to play him over SJ. What's going to happen when we play much better DLs? We will find out. I don't expect SJ to turn into Larry Allen. I do expect him to be serviceable.
