OL Moves

McCoy Needs to kick inside idk if he’s being stubborn about or the coaching staff…

But for the playoff run we’ve got to get the best talent on the field…. JC CANNOT be any worse than SJ who can’t run block, pass block, or even pick up a stunt
Why does everyone keep saying JC can't be worse when he obviously can which is why they aren't playing him. SJ was not bad in this game. Now everyone is just saying the same **** over and over, which was much more deserved earlier in the year.

Miami Offensive Line Grades vs. Florida State
Miami’s offensive line posted strong PFF grades in the 43‑35 double‑overtime win over FSU, with right guard SJ Alofaituli leading the group at 67.5 247Sports.

Top Miami OL Performers (PFF)

  • SJ Alofaituli (RG) – 67.5 grade, 80 snaps
    • Pass blocking: 69.6 grade – allowed just 1 pressure all game

Our next four games are against above average defenses. I don't think there will be any changes, certainly not throwing Cantwell in the deep end at OT, which will just make our pass pro issues worse.

The only realistic change would be subbing 71 in for 65 at RG, but why would we do that? SJ isn't great there, but we have managed to run the ball really well with him there the last couple of games. The case for 71 at RG is 100% based on a small sample of garbage time snaps against CMU. It's not a strong case, just wishful thinking.

We need Samson and McCoy to play better when we pass than last night, Congdon to make strides in pass pro, and SJ not to fall off a cliff. We are run blocking well enough that our talented RBs are running efficiently and getting some explosive runs.

Mensah will continue to get hit and flushed from the pocket. It's just going to be a fact of life this year, regrettably.
100%, SJ catches a lot of flack that is undeserved. He played a good game Saturday and his run blocking has been pretty darn good. The issue on Saturday was the past rush coming from the outside, not the interior. Again, just continue to improve the offensive line until we get Buchanan back and we will be fine..

I'm guessing Cantwell is injured. Only thing that makes sense. DMoney was saying he'd be one of the best OL in the ACC by years end, and now he can't get on the field. If he isn't injured, then.....
He’s not injured, he’s just not ready yet! How many times does this need to be said to people? He isn’t ready yet, no matter how much we wish he was Cici, he’s just not at this point in his career. Next year might be a different story, but it’s not gonna be this year.

But, no conspiracy or doghouse, or simple shuffle that turns the o-line from a worry into a elite championship unit tomorrow?

Same people that talk about player development are the ones still bashing SJ. SJ has more work to do, more improvement ahead. However, he’s gotten significantly better throughout this season. Don’t believe me? Watch the Stanford and FAMU tape again, then watch the last two games he played. For the stupid MFers on here who don’t know, THIS IS CALLED PLAYER DEVELOPMENT!!!!!! This is what is looks like…..dude comes in and doesn’t know what he’s doing, he learns the practice routines, film routines, training, diet and game prep. He then plays - in a game (gasp) - and puts real plays on tape. The coaches then analyze the film with the player, show him what he did well, what he fuccced up, and how to fix the fuccups. Player then applies what was taught. He either improves or gets replaced. SJ played all 80 snaps on Saturday.

Please don't come in here with a logical take. You're supposed to pick on the little guy.

SJ played every single snap….

If Merriweather is hurt I can understand it. If he’s not it’s coaching malpractice to not have seen rotation Saturday night.
I thought we would see 50-50 snaps between SJ and Merriweather. Hopefully he was banged up and gets snaps this week. It has to be driving Mario and Mirabal crazy!!

Fair enough. I'm curious as to what the issue is. What has to happen for him to be ready?

Looking back, Seaton was the one to put us over the top.
100%, I thought that was the biggest lost, Lane screwed us over big time. That move right there we win the natty, now we will get eliminated cause the OL is not good man its just not. Anyone saying otherwise is a homer

I don’t care what anyone says. We would be better off with a combination that has SJ on the bench. Move Samson or McCoy inside and start Cantwell.

I’ve heard all the excuses about Cantwell not being ready. People said the same bull**** about Congdon and he’s probably been our best lineman since he started getting more snaps.
LOL nobody was saying that about Congdon, they were actually saying he is more ready then Cantwell

The pressure was coming from the outside, but SJ was consistently getting pushed back so Mensah would often not have room to step up in the pocket. DMoney even made this point on the pod yesterday. SJ wasn’t a disaster like he has been in other games, but he’s still a consistent liability.

Yeah, and you can still find stinker reps against #5 (who is a good DT) from the FSU game. Small guard struggles to block big, talented DT straight-up, breaking news. The thing is we are doing tons more gap scheme stuff in the run game this year than in prior years Mario and Dawson have been here. SJ does much better when he is on the move. Is he perfect? No. But the reverse to Mali is a good example of SJ's value to the team. I don't think there are many guards nimble enough to pull right to left, and completely stone a free runner 3-4 yards in the backfield. That play doesn't work if SJ doesn't make that block.

This is 100 percent right. The OL is just not good enough to make a deep playoff run unless there's significant improvement.

And honestly, I don't expect significant improvement. People can make themselves feel better by saying, “Well, every team is a step down this year,” but it takes time for teams to reach their potential and round into form. Look at UM last year. Unfortunately, I just think the ceiling with this OL is pretty low, while other teams have more room to improve.

I'm just enjoying the ride at this point. I hope we finally win the ACC and put that narrative to bed. Best case, we clinch a bye, win a quarterfinal game, and make the semis. That'll keep the momentum going.

Can't fault the guy as its obviously worked out well for him, but **** it if Bell wouldn't have just come back for one more year.
