But YOU, being not that bright - are going to pass on that, and go out and take a job - with all the stress and long hours required, just to make about the same, maybe a bit more, or maybe a bit less?

Lol...I think you might just be arguing your point to argue, but I will give you benefit of the doubt and hope this helps.

Butch received approx a mil of that 2.7 mill up front, it was only the rest of 1.7 mil broken up into payments of 590K per year that he was set to lose if he took another coaching position.

The average coaches salary for the FBS in 2012 was 1.64 mil per year (much higher at a P5 schools). So Butch would miss out on more than a million a year, more than double his compensation package, to sit on his ***.

So no...neither you or I or Butch would miss out on that kind of cash just so we could sit on our ***.

But, lets just assume you are correct and Butch did want to sit on his *** to collect that 590K per year. Why would he not take calls? How would it hurt him to have his name associated with other programs? That would just drive up his demand for his next opportunity.

I'm sure you make so much more than $590,000.00 per year, and can afford to count this much as chump change.

And explain exactly how taking calls ups the demand? Do you announce the calls you get? Or, since most of them were likely made on the down-and-low, often by representatives - not school officials - do you also blow the horn on them too?

You guys recall the Golden/PSU fiasco? Did you hear Golden announcing his phone calls? Did you hear PSU announcing contact with Golden? Golden was contacted by one group of PSU coach hunters, but the REAL coach hunters didn't coordinate with the others.

Folks don't announce crap like that!

Did Golden get contacted? Of course he did, but no one knows crap about it for certain - and this was widely publicized.

Intermediaries do the initial contacts. Always. That way no one is on the hook.

So you're saying Butch has been purposefully wasting his last available coaching years to sit around and make less money just for spite? Yet, you still want us to hire him? If Butch had such little fire for coaching that he'd sit out purposefully at his age then he won't turn a program around. That takes fire and drive and you're already describing him like a retired old man who just wants to fish.

I don't know what other opportunities Butch has or hasn't had. The only thing I know is the guy said he'd be interested if there was an opportunity at UM at some point. Given that and his track record at UM he's worth a look.
 
Some posters like facts and statistics when they believe they are validating their positions, but want to discard them when they don't match the narrative they prefer.

Facts suggest Butch ain't coming back to Miami, or to any major program. Academic issues are a HUGE deal for college programs.

As I've continuously stated:

Butch missed his chance to be a college football coaching legend. He chased the money and the NFL. He can claim it was based on the buyout, but the reality is that Cleveland paid him more money than Miami was offering. And the NFL was clearly seen as a promotion to college ball when he left.

And the buyout issue is ridiculous for another reason ...

Folks are arguing Miami was doing Butch wrong by wanting a low buyout if they fired him, but a high buyout if he left for another job ... Meanwhile, those same folks are griping about who negotiated the deal with Al Golden that allows him to have such a high buyout. It's comical!

@ Cribby ... Thanks for linking that article. Hopefully, that ends the debate on "was Butch taking calls or looking for HC jobs since leaving UNC". Clearly, he has been trying to land something. And the response has not been favorable to him, by his own admission.

Can we focus on another candidate, now???
 
Disagree...they are both complicit. When the BOT feels the president is going in a direction they do not agree with they pressure them to change or replace them. The BOT hires and fires the president - not the other way around. Ergo, the BOT must hire someone who they know wants to have success in athletics at an elite level and if that hire show signs of disinterest in truly correcting flagging athletic programs then pressure them to make changes or replace them.

I can assure you, there's a 1966 car any prudent, sane, rational driver would love to have if you could get your hands on one, and it matters not if it's got a bit of age, or has a light layer of dust on it. The SOB will STILL run. That's what it does. Unless you're Driving Miss Daisy, you get a change to grab it, you just do.

Doesn't have the electronic ignition. Doesn't have fuel injection. Doesn't have variable timing or a reactive suspension.

Because it's a 1966 Ford GT40 Mark II.

Butch is like that. He just runs a program, builds a program, stocks a program, and gets it done.

Bunch of sissy boys scared of that 427 rumble, scared of the noise, and would settle for sissy boy coaches. I don't give a hoot in **** for most of the proposed coaches tossed out here, as they can do NONE of the things Butch can do, nor do them as well.

Tainted reputation? Well who tainted it? Wasn't Butch! It was school officials trying to cover their tracks!

With this mind set, we deserved exactly what we're getting. Rooted right up the kazoo. Year after year, because of sissy boys who are more impressed with perceived image rather than reality.
