Oh No Tenneessee - Schiano Hired - And Fired 8 Hours Later

Unbelievable. Tennessee is letting the inmates run the asylum! Guarantee the fans wouldn't have had any objections if they had hired Art Briles. And the biggest hypocrisy is that Butch Jones actually tried to cover up a rape. Hope their whiny @ss fanbase gets stuck with another retread corch.

If you were Schiano would you mutually agree to cancel your deal? No.

I’d tell Tennessee ‘I got this’. If the Vols insist, I’d advise them ‘my lawyer has the information as to where you can wire my money.’

$8M to can Butch Jones, an unknown sum to Schiano to buy out of this 8 hour mess and they still have to actually pay someone to be the head coach.

How is the AD not on the next bus out of town??

I don't see why would Mullen would want to move from MissState to Tennessee.
It would be going from one program that hasn't done much in the SEC to one that really hasn't
done much save 2-3 seasons but with greater expectations.

I don't think Schiano is the answer at UT, but may be somewhat of a pain-in-the-neck for us
every season for 1-2 players in the recruiting cycle because he would be hitting soFla hard.
He would probably hire Beanerdict Cristobal too.

For those who seem to think x amount of schools would be much better opportunities for coaching candidates…below you will read where Tennessee has been a national powerhouse (other than recent years) and with the right coach will once again be a powerhouse.

They have won 13 SEC conference championships and six national titles in their history. They have competed in every major bowl; Orange, Sugar, Rose and Cotton.

The Vols play at Neyland Stadium, where Tennessee has an all-time winning record of 464 games, the highest home-field total in college football history for any school in the nation at its current home venue. Additionally, its 102,455 seat capacity makes Neyland the nation's fifth largest stadium.

They won a national title back in 1998.
I will grant them that one.
But if you look at the talent on that team, most of their starters were from all over
country...not many from Tennessee.
That is not an easy place to win at the level that their delusional fans seem to want, especially
when Alabama, LSU, UGA and other schools are taking care of their recruiting backyard.

Anyways, when did they win the other 5 national titles?
Leather helmet days before blacks were allowed to play at most Div1 programs?
Sorry, that doesn't count.

Army, Harvard and Yale also won a bunch of games in their day.

This is a horrendous situation for Tennessee. Who would want that job now?

with their funding, size, everything and all that

any decent coach can go in there and do way better than the sh*t show they've suffered through lately

not saying they'd be even close to where we will be, but they've basically had their own shannon/golden years

justin fuente would probably kill it there

they should go after Washington coach

He would NEVER put himself in that situation. He is happy with that laid back west coast mentality.

I mean, there's no confirmation that Schiano actually covered the rape stuff up right? I think it's pretty sick that Tennessee fans say this is about morals, when it seems like they (and the politicians who spoke out about this on twitter), used the Penn State stuff as an excuse to nix the deal because they didn't like him as a coach

All there is on schiano apparently is that he was mentioned by mcqeery in a deposition as another coach having knowledge of what Sandusky was doing. Otherwise it’s unsubstantiated and schiano denies it.

Holy crap - I am completely flabbergasted by this one. Simply outstanding, fantastic, amazing.

This story is so ridiculous I can't even begin to comprehend it...

Wildest 8 hour off the field ride I can remember in college football, especially coupled with the Mullen/Frost side show.

Seriously? Do you have any knowledge of college football? For you to even suggest that Tennessee hasn't been or won't be a national power again is truly laughable. I really wish that occasionally I could have a serious and informed conversation with a member of this blog.

Where did I say that Tennessee won't be a national power again?
I'm saying it is considerably harder to do this at a school with little backyard talent than
it is at a school in or very close to a plethora of blue-chippers.
Which is why someone like Dan Mullen flew over the state of Tennessee on his way to sign
a contract with uf.
The fact that they draw 110,000 people to games is irrelevant as none of those have to cover DBs
or catch passes.
You're too emotional for these discussions.
Run to CVS and get that 2-for-1 deal on Tampons.

Seriously. The President of the school should have held a press conference to announce ‘not only is Greg Schiano not our new HC of football, our AD position is now officially open’.

"You asked; "Where did I say that Tennessee won't be a national power again?"

You compared Tennessee to Army, Harvard and Yale of 50 years ago, which infers they were never a national power! And now you are rephrasing your monumentally ignorant comments when I called you on them.

Then you claimed; "The fact that they draw 110,000 people to games is irrelevant"

Are you on drugs or have you fallen and badly concussed yourself? 110,000 people attending Tennessee games is irrelevant...now that is the blue ribbon winner of absurd and clueless comments.

Finally you regurgitated; "You're too emotional for these discussions."

Nothing personal, but I do get emotional when someone proves they have the intellect of a bowel movement.

By the way...I find it interesting that you can immediately quote deals that are being made on Tampons...hopefully it is not to terribly painful when you lodge those things inside of you.

I compared Tennessee to those schools because you are trying to say that Tennessee is a national power because they won 6 titles, 5 of them
during leather helmet/segregation era.
Following your argument to its logical conclusion, you have to include Yale, Army, Harvard, Fordham, UofSan Francisco, etc because they have won
their share of titles and/or bowl games.
Heck, if you want a more contemporary comparison, let's liken Tennessee to BYU, which won a title in 1984.
If you don't believe my point, look at which coaches are running to take that job and why Lane Kiffin bolted at the drop of the hat.
Army, Harvard and Yale also won a bunch of games in their day.
In fact, it is probably worse because at least at MissState the fans are satisfied with simply making it to bowl games whereas
at UT the expectations exceed reality.
Sorry, it is what the market says.

Please. UT claims 6 national championships, but only 2 are recognized. In fact, in 3 years they claim national championships, they lost their bowl games.

National championships

Tennessee claims six national championships. The following is a list of the six national championships listed by the Vols. Only two (1951 and 1998) were recognized by major polls. The Associated Press has only acknowledged Tennessee as National Champions twice, but the #1 Vols lost in the Sugar Bowl in 1951 after being named AP and UPI National Champions due to the polls being conducted before the bowl season prior to 1968 and 1974 respectively. The 1938 and 1950 championships, while not AP titles, were recognized by a majority and a plurality of overall selectors/polls, respectively.[19][20]

Year Coach Selectors Record Bowl
1938 Robert Neyland CFRA, Dunkel, Billingsley, CFI, Litkenhous, Boand, Houlgate, Poling, NSFR, Frye, Massy, Koger, McCarty, Libby, Maxwell, Sagarin, Howell 11-0 Won Orange

1940 Robert Neyland Dunkel, Williamson 10-1 Lost Sugar

1950 Robert Neyland National Championship Foundation, Billingley, CFRA, Massy, Dunkel, DeVold, CFI, Frye, Fleming System, Howell, Maxwell, Sorensen 11-1 Won Cotton

1951 Robert Neyland AP, UPI 10-1 Lost Sugar

1967 Doug ****ey Litkenhous 9-2 Lost Orange (What the **** is Litkenhous?)

1998 Phillip Fulmer AP, USAToday/ESPN, BCS 13-0 Won Fiesta

Total national championships claimed 6

Have we heard from Paul Finefart as yet? He needs to yet label UT a “Dumpster fire.” A job that nobody in their right mind would want .

Tennessee has one of the most loyal fan bases off any school in the country, but I wonder how much longer they’re going to put up with this chitshow. Lousy coaching hires one after the other and now this mess.
