Offseason Chat: What could make Hard Rock Stadium Better?

Knew that was coming…yes, I understand all that, was there for it all but that doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s a terrible location. What is around it ? Other than highways and hood ? I’m trying to get a hotel for ND close by and nothing exists, that’s worth staying in. I get the tri county idea, fine. The OB was a **** show to get in and out, not arguing there. But at least develop around it and make it somewhat appealing.
Where would you have stayed if they still played in the Orange Bowl? It’s not like Little Havana is some kind of tourist hot spot. You’d likely still have to make a trek to get a decent hotel.

Better question is how can The U better market the football, baseball, and basketball programs?

Given Miami is pro sports town and any number of non-sports competition.
The issue with baseball and basketball for me is the location. Any weeknight event is a no go because by the time I get to Coral Gables and park, the game would be halfway over.

Also, I understand that’s a ME problem. It’s not up to the school to relocate so it’s more convenient for me. It’s just why I can’t go to games unless it’s a Saturday.

No way bro, it’s 305, million places to stay. You must not be familiar with Miami. Common man, your talking to a native…

Joe Robbie saw the sports demographics changing in Miami. Along with the location being cheap land, giving Palm Beach and Broward fans easy access via the Turnpike ended up being a smart move. He knew he had as many fans in PB and Broward combined as he had in Dade.
The Hurricane fans need to understand that applies to UM as well. The student body is too small to be a factor.

The Dolphins always courted the north of Dade fans. For a few years my company bought a table at the annual Dolphins breakfast at the Broward convention center.
The main reason Robbie got out of the OB was his never ending fight with the City of Miami over maintenance and upgrading the OB. He’d finally had enough and gave them the 🖕and went and built his own stadium.

Agree. Was talking more about his logic for the location. Cheap land and access to the turnpike.

Hard to believe how cheap he built it when compared to today’s new stadiums.

Lol

Have you been to a game outside of HRS lately? This isn’t the 90s. Majority of FBs stadiums sell beer.
I haven’t been outside hrs for at least 5 years but sure I will give that to you, maybe more sell alcohol now. doesn’t change the point of my original reply which is that tailgates at hrs are the Wild West if it’s the right game

It starts with filling the place in my opinion. Find ways for folks to get in and out more easily (More Uber options, etc). Super discounted seats for high-schools and youth leagues. Close out the upper deck if attendance is expected to be low. Much more creative thinking on pricing and packaging. I’ve been just a few times, but I recall the best seats (Gold Club?) are oversized, luxury, bright colored, expensive and, therefore, often empty—it’s a lose/lose (and a bad look). Maybe there’s a way to offer standby options for those seats until the ticket holders show, stay if they don’t. They should never go unoccupied. Lower deck seats in general should be thought of like first class seats on an airplane—never empty, and if unused, an upgrade or benefit to the customer you care most about.
A reasonable take. I want more butts in these seats

Hey CIS-

With another season approaching, I think it's time we get real about the game day experience at Hard Rock Stadium. As much as we all love the Canes, it's no secret that HRS doesn’t give off the energy or atmosphere that college football is known for—and it’s hurting the game day experience (IMO).

Between the long distance from campus, the sterile NFL vibe, and bum tailgating rules, it’s just not stacking up to what you see at schools like LSU, Michigan, or even FSU (ugh). The thing is—we’re not helpless. I am sure the AD wants fans in the stands and creating noise. So what if we put our heads together and came up with a list of practical, realistic ideas to help make things better this fall?

I'm planning to compile the best suggestions and send them to the AD or someone involved with stadium ops.

Here are a few prompts to get the conversation going:
  • How do we get more students to games? (None of them attend anymore, which is WILD)
  • What tailgating fixes are actually doable?
  • Can we get an on-site uber lot for those who didn't drive? (Currently have to walk to Walmart to catch an uber)
  • What makes other schools’ gamedays better—and how can we copy it?
  • What in-stadium improvements would help atmosphere and energy?
  • Is there a way to make parts of HRS feel more “ours” (banners, traditions, lighting, music)?
One example I was thinking was the seat color- because its teal, on TV it looks like 12 people showed up when we played Duke. Could just put green t-shirts over the seats for the fans to hide the seats and more match typical fan colors (or orange or white etc...)

Go Canes 🤙
Yes, this guy is a Fing dbag. Ancillary components should be like umpires and referees, expediting the game, but not part of the game. This Cuck makes it about him, pushing his brand while pushing the Canes brand. Be Ibis, repping the U, but anonymous. If he wants to be seen, go the f**k to Til Tok, mfer.

The profit motives are not lost on me. It’s a pricing strategy exercise, informed by math not opinion. I think you find a way to fill every premium seat, like any perishable good (plane tickets, hotel rooms, Christmas trees). It requires creativity, thinking outside the box—maybe you raffle them off to season ticket holders? Maybe there’s a loyalty program where you get points for showing up in the first quarter, earns you a free concession or prize. Whatever, it’s a suggestion to improve what is currently terrible optics and a lose/lose (no revenue for zero marginal cost seats despite plenty of demand.
This is it in a nutshell, like there should be some discounted tickets for youth teams, ways to fill up sections when seats aren’t sold, some community engagement etc

????????

Maybe some drones that shoot lasers into the eyes of opposing players at critical times. You know, let's get into the future of competitive sports before everyone else. That or little trap doors under the grass that are only triggered by opposing player's cleats. Old fashioned, but maybe several trip wires?

If we make it to the playoffs and host a high powered passing attack, we could do what Shula did to the Jets in the 1982 playoffs… leave the sprinklers on overnight.
