That last part is true no matter what.

Used to be that all the OVs took place from roughly September to January. Now that recruiting has gone year-round, and a kid who is a "lock" in June is flipping in November, we MIGHT need to talk to the NCAA to change some of these rules.

But, yeah, we are "short" on OV spots, but not as bad as Gaby makes it out to be.

EDIT: ****, don't even get me started on coaching changes. What if Manny had used up all the OVs before Mario was ever hired? Or maybe we can treat "High School OVs" and "Portal OVs" differently. After all, very few Portal kids have the time to make 5 OVs, and with bowl season, very few schools have the time to host all their Portal candidates on OVs.

Or just drop all the dumb rules that serve no purpose except to give compliance people something to do during the day. The 25 counter rule should be gone forever, just cap the total number of scholarships like this year and let teams figure it out. Capping the number of OV's serves zero purpose.

Drop the entire recruiting "calendar." Why the **** would you tell a school and an athlete when they can and can't communicate?

Limiting the number of times a head coach can visit a prospect is probably the worst rule of them all. Howard used to camp out at local recruits houses. When the NCAA started restricting the number of times you could visit a prospect, it leveled the playing field for out of state recruiters and decimated the "home school advantage" in recruiting. Mario can't contact Brandon Innis, who is right up the road, any more often than a school in Ohio can contact him. That's nuts.

But that's what happens when you have a "governing body" that serves no other purpose but to govern. They make rules just to make them, to keep themselves employed and busy.

The gutting of the NCAA is the best thing that ever happened to this sport.

Glad they waited until after ESD. Not like schools could have used them before that seeing as they removed the counters part way through the year after they had already used a bunch of their normal allotment. This should have been part of removing counters.
