Official coach firing thread

Keep mccelwain at ***. We are on track

I agree that it's best for us if McElwain stays at UF. He won't be fully exposed as a corch until either the rest of the SEC East stops being so awful or Shannon and Collins leave the UF staff.

I'm guessing they hire Bryan Harsin or Dan Mullen to replace Helfrich (Larry Coker 2.0).

I think Brian Kelly will leave. Dude is begging to get out of ND, probably calling all 32 NFL teams for a position anywhere on the staff

Is kelly going to get any offers though? He might be the worst coach in FBS. Is seems like he and ND are stuck with each other.

LMFAO at anyone who believes that Brian Kelly is the worst coach in FBS. Guy has won at multiple stops, and has been a consistent winner at Notre Dame(Outside of this season, which was a massive disappointment).

I'll concede that worst coach in FBS is a bit of an exagerration on my part.

But 59-31 at ND being good? What a joke. His win % is .656. His big season in 2012 was with Weis' players.
I've read the ND boards and about 80% of the fanbase is in favor of his firing.

I always thought he was very overrated and unimpressive even before this year. I can't figure out for the life of me why ND is retaining him.

Jamal Carter is a hated name on ND boards these days since some people blame his failure to recover the fumble for Kelly's retention. I won't say that getting Kelly retained made the ND loss worth it but I will say it's a rare positive I can find for a loss.

Sonny Dykes on hot seat at U Cal Berkley, but he is now on the top of Baylor's wish list since Chad Morris (SMU) countered Baylor's offer of 5 years $24.5 million + bonuses. Someone might have thought too much of themselves.

BTW Navy put up 75 points on Chad's Mustangs last Saturday. Ouch.

CoRch Jim McElwain is supposedly one of the people Oregon might try to get. Seriously I believe they would be better off retaining Helfrich than hiring McElwain. Especially if McElwain can't get Geoff Collins and Randy Shannon to come with him. McElwain is an amazingly bad offensive coach for a guy who's background is in offense.

Here comes the typical delusional thoughts from fans of schools who fire coaches. Why in the goddam fck would McEltooth leave UF to go to Oregon unless he was being forced out?

Harsin is a paper tiger. Arkansas State fans were glad to see him leave. And he's underachieved at Boise including tanking badly this year.

Oregon probably pays more because of Phil Knight's money. Beyond that pretty much no reason whatsoever. Oregon doesn't have any recruiting grounds and no football history except for Chip Kelly's 4 years, Helfrich's 1st 2 years and maybe about 3 or 4 of Belotti's best teams.

I think the thinking behind him being linked to the job by pundits comes down to:

1. He's a Northwest guy and actually spent the majority of his career out West.
2. Phil Knight and Co. will overpay for him.
3. He ain't beating Bama anytime soon.
4. Although light years ahead of us, UF's "facilities" aren't on par with the rest of the SEC.

I don't see why he'd leave UF, but stranger things have happened.

He loses 3 games every year at Boise. That's despite getting great recruits (by group of 5 recruiting standards) who saw the Chris Petersen years. The MWC is also much weaker now then it was about 7 years ago.

Mcelwang is from Montana, went to school in Washignton and his wife is from there too. Rumor I heard around here is he reached out to Oregon.

Not sure how legit that is. But they prefer a younger , more energetic coach at Oregon. Like Harsin or Fleck

Florida is a better job than Oregon. Florida is a top 5-10 job whereas Oregon is outside of that range.

But, I can see Oregon be compelling for McTooth - as another poster mentioned, he's from the PNW and is an offensive coach.

I wouldn't be surprised if Oregon reached out to Kiffin as well. If McTooth leaves Florida, I can see Florida going after Mullen. Mullen has been dying to leave MSU for years.

I agree that Mullen wants to lease Starkville.

But what's funny about this scenario is that Mullen said Geoff Collins leaving to be Florida's DC was a "lateral move". If he took the Florida HC job, I wonder what he would call it? lol

Don't do it Coach... It's a trap...

I'm amazed how some coaches go from being on the hot seat to being a hot coaching prospect in 1 year. McIntrye and Taggart were both on the hot seat at year's beginning. McIntrye almost got fired after last year but the school couldn't afford the buyout. Now everybody wants to hire them as coach.

That dude needs to sit tight, and grab the Tennessee job when Butch Jones gets fired.

His recruiting ties to Florida, Georgia, and Kentucky are ideal! He just need to hire some staff with ties to Tennessee to bridge the gap.

Noooo way... Lol

Not to make it a racial thing, but the absolute worst place for Black HC's is the Sec East.

He should stay at USF for as long as possible until he wins the American & then take a B1G or ACC job if one ever opens up.

Watch out for Kevin Wilson to Oregon. Guy can coach and he would be a perfect fit. He has a DC now in Tom Allen that he will bring along.

Taggart would do great at Oregon. They need a relentless monster recruiter there who runs a system like Taggart. Helfrich let the talent level go completely in the toilet. It's a tough place to recruit despite all the bells and whistles once you get on campus.
