Official 2025-2026 Coaching Carousel

Yeah, the Beamers are too important up there. Shane will get a blank check and will coach there until he retires.

Beamer's done a solid job overall with the Gamecocks, but man he's had his share of stinkers — last night's 31-7 loss to Vandy for one (and, yes, LaNorris Sellers went down late in the first half, but getting blown out at home by the Dores is just plain bad).

The interesting thing TBD is whether or not South Carolina with its significantly deeper SEC pockets will prioritize keeping Beamer. Probably depends on the rest of this season goes

VT is having financial woes. Not sure they have the funds to pull Beamer away from SC and pay to revamp the roster.

Not sure why Beamer would leave anyways. He's done a pretty good job forging his own career. Why would he go back to the place where he’ll always be in his fathers shadow?

I agree, but VT’s standards are not ours. Remember, they’ve never even won a national championship (actually, I think never in a single sport). And Shane also played and was an assistant coach there too, so it’s not just their loyalty to Frank.

And why leave the SEC for the ACC, unless you got fired?

I’m not sure why UCLA hired DeSean Foster. I know he played there, but that’s not a reason. Was he a promotion they decided to retain?

Yeah, it will be interesting to see if SC tries to keep him. Shane seems like he’s always wanted to go home if given the chance though, as much as SC has been good to him.

He was RB coach for a couple years before HC. Not sure how much of a coaching search they did. He didn’t seem quite ready for a HC job.

Wasn’t VT interested in him after they got rid of Fuentes but he chose to stay at SC?

Interesting enough one of the commentators on the finebaum show said jumbo fisher to VT may be what happens there

How bad do you have to miss coaching college football when you take a mid job in Blacksburg, Virginia, despite having an $80 million buyout from your last job?

Just spitballing here ...

1. Big money boosters spent a ton of money on Chip Kelly for ho-hum results and might not've wanted to cough up big dollars again since that in itself wouldn't guarantee success

2. AD reasoned that a star player alum still in his early 40's could be a home run on the recruting trail

3. List of desirable candidates was slim considering UCLA's (and, honestly — with the exception of Oregon and, on occasion, USC — the entire West Coast's) lack of commitment to fully supporting its football program
