Re-watched the 1st half and first drive of the 2nd half again. There are two plays that are just killing our drives, the stretch running plays and the horizontal drag plays to Walford. Combined those two plays put us behind down and distance where the team couldn't pick up the 1st down killing FIVE drives. Both plays don't fit our personnel and should be scrapped from the playbook like that ****** reverse play that's finally been cut after Dorsett's injury.
The stretch plays do not fit with our Oline personnel. Our Oline is big and does not have the agility or quick feet to stop defenders shooting the gap. The Oline is best when they can lean on defenders going downhill like the 35+ yd Crawford run in the game. Somehow in the past, Duke was able to make big plays in the stretch despite the Oline's limitations but now that he's hurt we need to abandon this play.
Secondly, Walford is not quick and agile. These horizontal throws put us behind down and distance like the stretch by going for no gain. When Walford is going out on vertical routes his ability is maximized and that's where he makes his big plays like that one arm snatch against WF.
These two quick adjustments along with opening up the playbook and using more of the middle of the field could make a huge difference on us having longer offensive series and getting into more of a rhythm
