Offensive Line is a Weakness

View as article
How much of that lack of depth at DB and LB is due to injury though?

Some. Yes. 74 on scholarship is still an issue though. Once again Miami is in a situation where injuries (which always happen in football) leaves them razor thin at positions. Need to also need to improve the identification of talent, the development of the talent, and retention of the talent as well.

So many kids time and time for YEARS now leave the program (9 of 19 in the 2016 class) and the response: "They weren't any good." or "They don't want to be Hurricanes so F them" Cant have where 50% of a class leaves (or not good) so that WHEN injuries happen you are held holding the bag.

Do you agree with me here?

A lot of the BLAME for the atrocious sorry mess in the offensive line department, is on both Richt and his good ol' boy pal, Stacey! No ifs, buts or huh.

Are there things systematically you can help? Sure. I like it to Richt's first year where after 4-4 start, Miami abandoned the I formation and put Kaaya in the gun and really did a concerted effort to get rid of the ball quick. When it did, the canes averaged over 100 more yards a game rushing and that started the beginning of a winning streak.

Can Enos chip? Sure. But Why when the tight ends you are using are weapons and you want them to do what they can to help score points. Can Enos spread you out (I prefer this based on opinion) but it is not like the offensive line won't get tested. Lots of spread teams give up sacks. UNC btw has given up 19 sacks to Miami's 18 (Searels again)

I just think that if Miami is going to be serious coastal contenders year in and year out and beyond....the roster management ESPECIALLY along the offensive line needs to improve. AND the roster retention NEEDS to improve.

This would have been a better OP. Bringing Manny into it as if he has anything at all to do with the talent and depth issues at OL was just dumb.

Why not? If he wants to succeed here he'll hire the best guys he can get (for the money we have available). He'd be hamstringing himself if he hired anything less.
You make a huge assumption that he will hire the best guys he can get. Enos strikes me as a guy who will hire guys he has worked with in the past. Just look at the staff he put together. Are you telling me there was no WR coach better out there that would want the Miami job than Stubbs lol.

The Tommy Kennedy issue aside I fail to see how Manny and Butch are to blame for the hand they are dealt. Manny had no say what went on with offensive recruiting while he was DC; so how’s he responsible for the lack of talent on the OL? Blame him for this past recruiting class fine, but he had what a month or two to piece an OL class together?

This seems like piling on for the sake of piling on. The OL is a mess and while scheme could help it wouldn’t solve the issue - Roman readily admits this. The OP seems like much ado about nothing. We know OL sucks. We know Zion shouldn’t be playing, but he is...what does that say about the guys behind him? Now, if you want to argue Enos and Butch are deliberately playing inferior players on purpose then I have to ask why would they do that? What’s the end game there? If they are playing the best players, then do you still blame Manny for the multiple misses at the OL spot despite his nothing having a say in the matter until now?

Enos more than anyone deserves blame (Searles and Richt are to blame for the personnel issue) because he should be scheming around the OL....tempo and quick passing game (undercenter and shotgun...balance in order to still provide diversity to run game). The opening drive against UF should be the offense’s blueprint until the guys up front improve (Reed should have been starting over Donaldson for the simple fact that fat *** Donaldson can barely walk).

Yeah. It seems to me, Donaldson is ANOTHER overrated FOUR-STAR player. I haven't been impressed with him one iota, SO FAR this season! I just hope he wakes up from his slumber and stops eating those MIDNIGHT snacks. hUh

Um idk, maybe be a head coach and talk the kid out of it! You know kind of like he did with Thomas. This isn’t rocket science here and we are no position to be letting talent walk off this team without a fight.

Why are you assuming he didn't try to talk him out of it? Unless Reed was just a total disaster, of course they would have tried to talk him out of it.

Wait a second!! The HERD continually says you can "scheme" around a bad offensive line.

They eviscerated Mark Richt for not "scheming" around last year's underperforming offensive line.

Don't you think it would be prudent to hire the highly qualified HERD members who have been so boisterous in this area so they can teach the coaches how to "scheme" around an offensive line that has mastered the tricky olé block?

Richt was coaching at a high school level offense. I did say that the offensive line would have advantage away from his system. And that is true.

Enos much more multiple (Albeit this is a pro style offense don't let anyone fool you) and does not have the maddening predictability that Richt had. But the offensive linemen losing one on ones is not a system based thing a lot of times. The victimized by blitzes early was which has died down a bit the last two weeks was. But I will admit I thought they would play much better as a unit. And that is not exactly the case up until now.

Correct us all if we’re wrong Moron but I think Diaz hired Enos and Barry. And I also think mr espn production assistant thought it would be a good idea to give carte blanch to those two bums with no oversight. So I think we can very much blame Diaz for all of this seeing as they were his corching decisions but your a porster anyways so I guess it’s par for the course that a porster will support a corch. Lol

I literally said the blame is on Diaz for hires you functional ******.

Keep sucking the paint teet

Emotional rhetoric aside, you make much more valid points than Roman did. OL issues will be corrected with time (hopefully), but Enos hasn’t helped as a result of his play calling. His play calling doesn’t look like what he did at Arkansas, which I’d imagine was what Manny thought he was getting. Still time for Enos to change his approach and he must and I hope Manny has pushed him some on that.
Arkansas's line was good, not great. You can call a different game with a serviceable line.

I am more x's and o's on this site. More opinionated when I am on the Orange bowl Boy podcast and when I wrote for TOS. Jut stewed on this all week and I wanted to purge. Bye week blues I guess. I am disappointed in Manny and the fact his offense (Which he knew was an issue and fired his entire staff) would rank in such a quagmire of ineptitude along the offensive line. That is all. It is not all doom and gloom. Eventually this offensive line will get a little older and it is really young. The whole offense in general actually.

And yes. STA for the win.

Again, why are you disappointed in Manny for the quagmire of ineptitude when you acknowledge that Manny isn't responsible for it?

Herbert and Hillery at least deserve a look. What do we have to lose? OLine is already bottom of the barrel. Throw them them in and see what happens, you never know. Some guys have bad practice habits but show up for game day.
Parcells frequently said that about Lawrence Taylor. Neither have Lawrence Taylor abilities.

No. But it is getting really really old. "We want kids who WANT to be Hurricanes" They all WANTED to be Hurricanes. They signed. That rule applies to those who are recruits IMO. Miami has 74 scholarship players. They have depth concerns in the secondary and the offensive line. But the last 3 guys who left were at those positions.

Miami is not Clemson or Alabama. They haven't been. They need to stop pretending they are something they aren't. They need to think about changing their tune. They need to keep the expectations realistic, genuine and honest.

Miami by pounding on their chest, (not winning) and doing what they have been are letting astronomical numbers of players walking out the door. They put themselves in a situation where they are one cycle of miss or a couple of injuries away from starting true freshmen at the offensive line.

Just like this year. And our senior class? 2016?

only
4 start
1 just redshirted
1 barely plays
2 got hurt with career ending injuries
2 left for the draft
and
NINE left the program

I seriously didn't know 9 bolted Thee Gables. But I'm guessing a few of those NINE were subtly " run off " for various nefarious reasons and all that.

As always, I thank you for sharing your deep/intellectual and thoughtful analysis.

Clearly, Manny Diaz SHOULD BE FIRED for not going into a local laboratory to create 5 to 6 great offensive linemen.

And the same goes for Enos and Barry as they have failed us all by not creating Monster's of the Midway offensive linemen out of Play Dough...AND MUST BE FIRED!!!

Keep up the great work!

Cool. But welcome to the world of college football coaching where the head coach will take the blame for EVERYTHING
I still don't like Manny's decision to start campbell, he gets roasted, doubles down on him, then pulls him.
And now he will have a decision at left tackle after Zion's performance.

Either way Manny will need to get involved on that side of the ball because there are glaring deficiencies at the moment in its efficacy.

Richt was notorious for always being short on scholarships at UGA. He brought the same flawed philosophy here.. How about we see how Manny handles it.

Manny has time. I am not selling on Manny. Enos. Barry or anyone. Way too soon for that. At the half way mark of the season and after two conference games more it is time to take inventory sure. But after 4 games and seeing how poorly the offensive line has played at times, it was worth mentioning.

I agree that the attrition has been unacceptable, yes, and contributed to the depth problems. I'm also not happy with not having backup plans in recruiting when the SEC ***** snubs you a week before signing day. We don't seem to sign full classes ever.

Exactly but then your dumb@$$ said “Furthermore how can you blame Diaz considering the offensive "keys" were handed to Enos and Barry.” Your words @sshole. So yea we can blame Diaz because it was his decision as Head Corch to hand the keys over to Enos and Barry with clearly no oversight! But by all means keep porsting away moron. Lol

And this is why we debate. good stuff. At least you weren't the one that just called me dumb...lol
