OC thread

Easy staff fix is to move Hartley to safeties and let him keep ST. Banda and Patke can be Co-DC and LB coach.

That move opens up the ability to hire a TE/ OC, or move young Richt to TE and hire a QB/OC.

Not interested in Jon Richt remaining in any coaching position on this staff. This was arguably the poorest qb play I have ever seen watching Miami football. Baby Richt is a piece of a trash. Completely unqualified and should have never ever been allowed to be hired in the first place. Nepotism at it's finest.

Stop falling in love w the **** names. There are plenty of options out there.

Chip Kelly came from New Hampshire.

Tom Herman from Iowa State.

Ryan Day from an awful 49ers squad.

Lincoln Riley from East Carolina.

Chad Morris from Tulsa.

We just need somebody who knows wtf they are doing and actually game plans.

This program is a disaster and ran by amateurs. If you are not a bible thumper then you dont get considered for the job. You also have to have zero to little college coaching experience to be brought in on this staff.

Princeton is nothing like Miami. Princeton kids are nothing like Miami kids. We need someone on offense like Manny Diaz was for defense - someone who gets the South Florida football culture and who can get tge most out of our local kids

Oh...someone that folds every time they face an opponent with a pulse, like Manny? Pass.

I’m laughing cause you’ll believe Richt is going to hire the right guy.....

Just look who he hired to run his defense.

Great, and both Mallory and Jordan would immediately transfer out of the program. Jon Richt is not qualified to teach any position on the team and that’s part of the main problem with this team.

Whipple actually went to Miami

I am not really sure what you mean by 'culture'.

Manny Diaz was a mediocre DC before he came to Miami and found a rare fit for his style. Gleeson is promising because he has been the top OC/qb coach in FCS for two straight years and for several years before that was an assistant coach who helped change the culture and performance at Princeton. Whether he 'gets' the South Florida culture or not, he has been proving it working his way up at Princeton and we have legitimate proof that the guy can really coach offense at a smaller school. I am willing to bet a kid from South Florida will much prefer the culture of good playcalling, good qb development, and subsequently a much better offense and competitive program (and better long term development for them) than they would a guy who can 'ham it up' more with Luther Campbell and is 'streetwise' (which I think is what you're really trying to say) in superficially relating to S.FL kids.

Do you think Gleeson has never coached, played, or generally dealt with a player who came from a difficult upbringing simply because he's at Princeton? Or do you think he's never dealt with players who suffer the same issues as kids at Miami/general kids going to college: immaturity being away from home, personal issues, family issues, homesickness, etc.? Do you know how academically demanding Princeton is for athletes? This guy is putting up outstanding numbers at a university that demands more out of its students and athletes than maybe almost any other university, anywhere, in the country.

I won't even get into all the mediocre guys who supposedly are candidates for OC/HC at Miami in your eyes because they played or grew up here . I also won't get into all the great OC/HC that came from smaller schools, whom at first glance wouldn't have fit your criteria for 'getting South Florida culture', and yet any South Florida kid would be crazy or blindly loyal to not pick one of these other coaches.

I don’t disagree with you. I just don’t think Richt will do that to his son.

And moving him to a less prominent role, combined with hiring a new OC, would probably give Richt the cover to keep the kid on staff.

But, again, I agree with you. Just don’t see him firing his kid.
Should not be optional. James and BOT must force this and if Richt doesn’t like it, he can retire....

Not happening.

But I’ll play along.

Jeff Scott, Clemson coOC, getting $800K now. Pay him $1.2M

Bill Bedenbaugh, OU coOC/OL

If Scott is a candidate then so should Brandon Streeter QB/recruiting coordinator at Clemson. He's recruited/coached Watson, Bryant and Lawrence and before that worked his way up at Liberty and Richmond as qb/OC coach (so he's not a green playcaller) and did very well at both.

Let's post news and ideas here.

The name that intrigues me is Bill Bedenbaugh, co-OC Oklahoma. His name has been brought up before and it makes a ton of sense, especially now that we have a fresh start with Manny.

Lifelong Air Raid guy (played under Leach), has been around the best playcallers in the game, elite OL coach and evaluator of OL talent. He can help address our two biggest needs. The knock, and it's a big one, is that he's never called plays.
