OC search

Dawson has been mediocre this season but this is not on him. Dawson has already said Mirabal designs the run game. Think about it, Dawson literally has zero of his own guys as position coaches. This offensive staff are all Mario guys. A new OC wouldn’t matter unless he’s able to bring in every assistant he wants.

I'd love to see Phil Longo here. I think philosophically, it would match. Those UNC offenses were physical and tough. But he was creative too. Lots of simple stuff and took shots deep. Seemed to also have a killer instinct. But I just looked him up and learned he's HC at Sam Houston State and currently 0-8 so maybe I'm living in 2021.

Let’s start throwing out other names of head coaches who would take a demotion
OC is by far Mullen’s quickest route to a legit P4 HC job if he wants another try. By far most plausible situation. Not necessarily at Miami. He can do better IMO (LSU).

Pretty clear that offense was Cam last year. Take him away and we are right back to this year. 2023 and 2025 are shaping up to be mirror seasons so you have to think those are the norms. If you look at it that way this offensive system and play calling needs a #1 overall QB to succeed.
Without Cam we were below .500 last year. He put the team on his back. It’s almost a blessing and a curse. He may have just delayed the inevitable with Mario.

Does Dawson want to stay in this situation and keep taking the heat? To me that’s the bigger question. Especially is Mario is handcuffing his play calling and making him look bad.
Lets be real , Dawson is a nobody who if it wasnt for his buddy Dana would of been a oc at a d2 school. He wasnt some sought coordinator when we hired him and he's not now.

I hated the hire after seeing how our offense looked with TVD. Guess what? Our offense looks the exact same again. Cam went off script and did what he wanted last year. It had nothing to do with Dawson.

If the offense was just cam last year, explain to me why he was about to be a fifth -7th round draft choice, and the Washington state offense wasn’t better
Because at Washington State he was in a tougher conference combined with less talent around him. Also I always believed once teams saw Cam Ward at the combine theres no way he drops past the second round had he'd stayed in the draft that year.

It’s that time of year folks. Who we got on the short list. Un-realistic options only please

I’ll start.

Kliff Kingsbury
You are clearly kidding. Mario bragged about his two hours interviews for potential coordinators only to whiff twice on oh and dc hires. Just an all around bad coach. He’ll wait until all the reputable are snatched up and then hire another bum. Thus putting the nails in his own coffin

North Texas. Get the OC from there. Will work juuuuust fine.

(We won't do that.)
Yeah no way are we going with someone like that. I mean we should, but we won’t. Why put up play station numbers with lesser talent spreading the field and attacking when we can sit back in a condensed set and run the ball into an OL with 1 foot splits.

Let me ask y’all something.

Shannon Dawson had the #1 offense in the country last year. We can argue why he did or who is mainly responsible for it til we’re all blue in the face, but point is, facts are facts.

So in one year, when Mario and co. run him off as the scapegoat - who in their ******* right mind would take this job if they’re an OC worth a ****?

Mario will only hire guys he’s comfortable with regardless, but point still stands. We’ll be on OC #3 in five years, and we’d have run off a guy we were worried about getting an HC gig.

At some point, the scapegoats don’t work anymore.
Dawson is only moving on to get a HC job. So it won't at all have the appearance of him being Run off.

So two out of three years his offense is insufficient, in fact stinks . He can't seem to put his QB in a position to succeed with all kinds of talent on the field. The Cam Ward year was the outlier. Cam ran the LOS and made sure he distributed the ball. Carson doesn't have the physical ability for some of the stuff Cam did but he is more capable than he's been allowed to be.

Let us not forget Dawson was demoted in his previous job from calling plays.

I don't think getting rid of him is an issue... Mario won't fire him publicly anyway. He will leave on his own.
