NY Daily News: Leonard Taylor was “misused” at Miami

Did this writer ever watch his interviews? He admits himself that he was taking plays off and needed to work harder.

Maybe he was. He only played 10-20 snaps a game. This was the coaches choice not his. I know the party line was he was lazy. Probably true. But we have 20 straight years of misusing players so I see where the article comes from.

a true space eater next to him would have showcased his abilities more there’s no question. But it also seems that he didn’t take his craft very seriously here either. Both things can be true

This is where I land on him. Was not used to maximize his skill set. Did not put forth the effort to maximize his natural talent.

He was used a ton at 0T and 1T last year. Not his ideal spot based on physical traits.

Funny part is, he was better at those spots than 3T because he lost sight of the ball so much. He'd lose contain on misdirection or pullers because he didn't trust his keys and keep his eyes right. Once that happened he didn't have the motor to make plays out of his zone.

If he takes to coaching and gets his eyes right, he can be a solid 3T in the league. It's just that there are tons of 305 lb. 3T's who have first step quickness and good strength. If you can't find the ball and stay disciplined, you can't play in the NFL.

When asked to simply occupy blockers and react, he was better last year.

Talent in that body, but he wasn't misused. The team put him in a spot that he could play without killing gap integrity.

He needed another year where he showed work ethic and a motor while improving his eyes. Going UDFA was unexpected, but he tested like a slug with a poor motor who didn't find the ball.

Where do you draft those guys?

all of this: ☝️ .... facts

ESPECIALLY: "he didn't have the motor to make plays out of his zone ..... He needed another year where he showed work ethic and a motor while improving his eyes. .... he tested like a slug with a poor motor who didn't find the ball."

He realizes it’s a business he better take it seriously or he’ll be looking for work elsewhere.

Hope he thrives will see.

💯 agree. I thought he played much better at 1 and 0 than he did previously at 3. He was fairly stout and didn’t get moved around much. He was our best DT last year. He’d get lost in the wash too often at 3T because he’d run himself out of plays and just kind of give up.

So Manny was here for how many years and that’s the only guy? I do remember the guy that was dancing on the sidelines.
Manny defense doesnt call for a big 1 tech...gap integrity isnt at the forefront...getting up the field n chaos is paramount.

Suited lt play style better for what he was motivated to do.

I cant blame Manny when the transfer portal was there and you bring in Lichtenstein an Gore an whomever else.

Dude had to play 1 tech last year...and should have been able to play it...he went undrafted not to the fault of mario or manny but more so himseldf and what he idd at the combine or put on film or interview rooms.

It's the Daily News. aka "a rag newspaper"

they love a good headline

On another note, though, that's not the first time that sentiment has been expressed by local sports people...
They love a good headline followed by a bad article. Consistently.
