Notre Dame's QB1 in the Opener

To be fair, and strictly basing my opinion on recent games, I don't think that ND will be flustered by the environment.

Of course Miami should expect them to lean on the run game and defense and least till they are sure Carr's (likely QB) nerves are calmed. ND is very deep on defense (3 deep at each position) and 5 deep at RB. They would be smart to rely on them .

Carr is going to be really good, but this is not an easy first game

I've seen a few one point game predictions in favor of Miami in this one.
That is exactly what the ND coach (Kelly) said before the game at Hard Rock in 2017. "We have been in loud venues before ... it won't be a problem". Well, then he got there and he couldn't even hear the ESPN interviewers questions on the field 45 minutes before kickoff ... when the stadium wasn't even half full. That canopy rebounds sound ... it was a crowd that night that was 90% UM fans ... and they were loud. ND was ranked #3 in the country with two 1st round draft picks on their OL ... the were supposed to "dominate the LOS and run the ball down Miami's throat". It was so loud they couldn't run their offense .... 41-8.

Fond memories, but this team handled a championship run last year just fine.

Its not an apt comparison.

I love how people say they have a stud RB??? When did Love become Jeanty or Derrick Henry that he is just going to tote the tater 35-40 times by himself and lead them to 15 victories.

Gonna need more than that.

Plus as I stated to our resident ND insider on the board, Angeli sucks inner buttcrack and being passed 3 times and he has been there 3 years is trash AF
Is their outer buttcrack?

And your reply leaves out the biggest difference in that team and this one. The most important position on the field is being maned by a player that has never taken an actual college snap in the most hostile environment he has ever been in.

As horrible as Riley was as a qb. He did have years of experience in big games…..

If Angeli finished Spring 3rd, I would think, Wow, what a QB room. What I think is Angeli has looked very good in his little playing time. Not enough to be proven, himself. They have no one proven and now Angeli is gone. I don't believe Minchey outplayed him. Tell me they love Minchey running the ball in that O, but ahead of Angeli? I don't believe that mess. The only thing I know about Carr is he supposed to be a talented passer and he is Floyd's Grandson. I love Carr starting this game. I would look for Minchey to come in and run the ball in some packages. I would focus on their OL, run game and their D. If we can mostly contain the run (portal me) we have a chance. I think they come in confident after last season. Mario, in game decisions and clean up the penalties for God sakes, finally. Kicker!

Really?? The ND QB has never taken a snap in a D1 game. His first will be in arguably the loudest venue in the ACC.

That's all fine and good, but weren't we ****ting on the Gators all last offseason because their only "deciding" factor for the game was the Swamp "environment" and how the Canes wouldn't be able to handle it?

2017 was 8 years and two coaching staffs ago. Freeman is not Kelly. The Domers return a ton from a team that played for the national championship last year. I just think relying on the "it's the Rock at night and remember 2017" isn't the flex some on this board think it is.

Miami has an OL that is as good as ND or very very close. UM has a QB who has big game experience and a 23-3 record playing mostly SEC competition, while ND will be starting CJ Carr, a RS Freshman, who has NEVER TAKEN a college football snap. He is a 5 star QB recruit who played for a HS that was ranked #2247 nationally.

Miami also has an excellent RB and TE combination, so I would give the advantage offensively to Miami.

ND returns a good group of defensive players and I do believe our offensive starters match up well. Fairly even from a roster stand point. Have you ever BEEN to Hard Rock for a big game when the stadium is packed with 90% of the fans being UM fans? It is the loudest venue in the state and perhaps the ACC. Even Herbie / Fowler were stunned by the noise and clearly said "this is about the loudest stadium I have ever been in". That is a major task for a freshman QB taking his FIRST COLLEGE SNAPS in his career. Home field advantage to Miami.

I'm a season ticket holder for the Canes and was there in 2017 for the ND game. It's a legitimate homefield advantage when the place is packed.

I just don't think it's going to be the deciding factor in this game. While your OL analysis is spot on, those two units won't be matched up against each other - it's the Canes OL v. the ND DL (which probably decides the game), and the ND OL v. the Canes DL (where I think the Domers have the advantage). I'm also slightly concerned about Beck without Georgia's weapons, ND's secondary against our WRs, Jeremiah Love/JD Price, and ND's returning production from last year's playoff run.

Is it a game I think the Canes can win? 100%, and the Vegas line reflects that. But comparing 2017's UM team to 2025's is the same as comparing apples to potatoes; it really doesn't mean anything, and if we're hanging our hat on the "environment" at Hard Rock winning the game for us, we can ask the Gators how that turned out for them last Labor Day.

The difference is that last year we went to the swamp with a veteran QB. The moment wasn't too big or intimidating for him. Carr's very first collegiate start is going to be at a packed stadium where thousands of people would love to see his bell rung by Rueben Bain or any of the other 6 players in range to do so. That's not a situation he's ever faced at the college level.

We don't have to hang our hat on the environment, but it's absolutely a factor, especially if we can rattle him early in the game.

But the “environment “ will give us an advantage where you clearly think ND will have one. They will have to go on a silent count because of the noise, not a normal one. Our d line will have an advantage if and when that takes place. It sounds like a small advantage but that half a step or split second can cause game changing plays in the backfield.

I think they’ll be run heavy on offense. They’ll rely on their very good OL and an elite RB. If we can at least neutralize their running game, Carr can’t beat us.

And they don't want his baptism by fire to be on their first drive. I see them being run heavy as well.

Nobody said we are "hanging our hat on the environment to win the game". I believe we have two fairly evenly matched teams, with Miami having TWO major advantages vs ND. 1 is the fact that UM has Beck who is by any standards an elite QB who will have better WR's and by all comments a more effective OL than he had in 2024 at Georgia ... while ND has a QB who has never taken a college football snap. Huge advantage to Miami. Advantage 2 is ... a legit home field advantage as far as noise is concerned. No it is not 2017 ... it is 2025 ... and there will still be a significant majority of UM fans in the stands as we had in 2017. Very tough environment for a QB to take his very first college snaps. PLUS ND isn't going to have virtually any defensive film to watch on the actual D they will be facing. I like our chances.

Our D Line is a 100% complete unknown.

We're assuming Bain and Mesidor will start at end.

They're not rushers. They're undersized tackles. This match-up favors NDs O Line. If ND leaves a TE in to block, there's a chance our D doesn't lay a hand on Carr all night. We don't have Phillips or Rousseau anymore.

Or if not them, it'll be some undersized true sophomore, and they'll get steamrolled by the championship game ND O Line.

We only have one match-up that benefits us in this game. Its QB with the POTENTIAL for Beck to be 100% recovered, healthy, and zeroed in.

Every other match-up favors ND.

PROVEN:
D Line
Linebackers
Secondary
O Line
RB
K

TE (everyone says Lofton is great but how will we use him? It doesn'tseem like he'll be replacing Arroyo or Mccormicks role.)
WR (They're returning starters have more experience than ours)

This game is going to be an extremely tough battle for us. Harder than any game we played last year.

For us to have a chance, we will have to execute flawlessly.

The defense will have to man up and stop the run while also defending their play action passing. If we continue to ignore and disregard the TE and RB, they will torch us.

If we decide to run Fletcher up the middle against their D Line and LBs, we lose. This roster has not faced a defense of this caliber before, and we don't have Martinez.

Mario ball will not overcome this Freeman defense. It will require misdirection, and utilizing all weapons available like OSU did.

This is game could make or break the season.

So Bain and Mesidor arent the only DE's we have. We have much quicker guys than that. And as far as them being undersized, being quick off the edge is exactly what im talking about. On passing downs the power of the oline doesnt negate speed off the edge. Even Bain and Mesidors power will win if they get a jump on the snap because of the noise advantage.

We have an advantage at the most important position on the field, and the groups you outlined are closer than you think. Did we play Mario ball last year cause it dam shore didnt look like it. This game is gonna come down to turnovers and 3rd downs. I would much rather have the qb who has seen it all vs a qb that hasnt seen anything.

Year 4. At home. Win the game.
