Notre Dame game thoughts

I disagree with the other poster. We have faced a murderer's row of QBs. Aside from teams that have played both Baker Mayfield and Mason Rudolph, we may have faced one of the tougher slates of QBs of any team.

Logan Woodside of Toledo is one of the best and smartest QBs I've seen all year. I am super impressed by him and I believe he's gonna be a NFL QB. He won't get drafted too high due to not checking all the measurables boxes, but he's a gamer.

Eric Dungey of Syracuse is the fearless leader of Syracuse's high powered offensive attack. Great dual threat QB. Toughest competitor we've faced.

Daniel Jones of Duke leads a strong offense and is a NFL prospt under David Cutcliffe's tutelage.

Fair point. Honestly, i looked at the teams and not the players before posting.

Toledo has a good QB but it's mute without a good line. Can't compare Toledo to ND's QB it's foolish. You have to look at the team not just the player. ND plays very well at home, would be a 7-10 point favorite over us there. IMO, we have played one good game at duke which was a pretender and one great game against a good team. I don't know if we're just playing down to other teams or they really are a top 4-8 team, we will know this weekend. I don't count the FL ST game, that is a close game almost every year, kids all know each other. If the D plays like they did the other day they can beat anyone not named Alabama. We just aren't deep enough yet, in two years it will be a totally different story if we keep recruiting the way we are.

I compare everyone to Alabama, nobody is going to beat them this year, they're on cruise control right now. They would beat ND by 30 on a neutral field in a NC game. They match up with ND perfectly. A pure passing team would be the only one that has a chance of keeping it close, forget about running it against them.

if our offense comes out like we did against VT and we can control the run, we'll be fine... i don't think ND will take a lot of risks on D so we won't be able to rely on the big bombs, really hoping for more accuracy from malik.

So tell me NDIrish15 why did you come into this forum if your a ND fan?

Because i love talking football. I dont enjoy the conversations on ND forums. Expectations are ridiculous, all they do is complain and whine. Plus they can't ever tell me anything i don't know. I'd rather go to the source and learn from the other team then what nd fans "think" they know. To many arm chair QBs who aren't satisfied unless its a 50-0 win. They think they can go out there and coach these kids.

I find it far more interesting to hear from opponents and share what info i "think" i know.

Miami needs to focus on runs of the middle and passes between 8-12 yards. There isn't alot of room on the corners and deep balls will be 50-50.

no problem - i have to admit that Notre Dame fans are annoying.

ND fan- Here are some intangibles to consider. A good amount of our players come from pretty impoverished backgrounds (putting it mildly) and hence our history. Back in the day that was plenty of motivation as the nation really hated that our teams were stacked with kids that had little other than football to play for and the nation was rightfully scared to play the canes bc we put out some monsters out there that ate opposing teams souls and reveled in that. Fast forward NCAA rules, probation, two bad coaches and here we are again threatening to turn upside down the college football world which NOBODY wants to see (ND is not alone). We are coming to play for that right again as it is what feeds us and ND better be ready for that. As a side note the team is different (CMR really lays down the law) and there are some really good dudes off the field on this team (Demetrius Jackson although injured gives much back to liberty city) but make no mistake these guys have waited for this moment for 15 years. That is what ND will really be facing when they come down (forget Georgia, USC, etc). If you do win big ups to you again but I don't think ND knows what is going to be thrown at them from purely this perspective.

ND would not do well with bama, thats why i feel like if we can't get in the playoffs with a 2/3 spot then i don't want to get in at all. i think we could do well against some of the other opponents though. Much like Miami, not sure if we would win or not, but i think it would be a respectful/competitive game.

Here's something that ND needs to consider.

The players themselves may not have a memory of the 1988 and 1989 games. But many of our fans do.

I'm Catholic, much of South Florida is Catholic, and the whole "Catholics vs. Convicts" stuff in 1988 angered people in South Florida immensely. Our fans treated ND fans with great disrespect in 1989 (I was one of them) and it was well-deserved.

So the crowd noise and anger should be very pronounced on Saturday night. I would say "nothing personal", but I think it's very personal.

i have noticed that. I have seen ND hatred over the years, but never like on this board. I wasn't apart of that and dont really like hearing about it now. its just a football game.
In SFL it isn't

Bear - thanks for the input. I was a little young for the actual history of Miami (both including and not including notre dame), so i enjoyed the quick summary. IMO, its hard thinking about those kids from previous miami teams. I mean, i feel like college should be student athletes, but without football so many kids would never get a chance. But thats a huge debate for another time. I'm glad miami is winning and they are giving back off the field. I do find it odd when i hear radio shows (nationally) talk about miami. they definitely have a different tone with them.
Its weird, i have been feeling like ND is also changing this year. In years past, there was no attitude to ND, there were talented people, but they felt entitled and that because they were notre dame, they should win - very accurately how they were perceived by the public. But i feel like this team is working towards earning it. They are as much a "team" as i have seen. When they tackle on defense, there are 8-9 guys there, not 1. When they hit you, they tackle you. They aren't going high and lazy. they are hitting hard. Also, when they get hit hard, they aren't getting hurt. That is a huge positive i have noted this year, they are physical. So many times the hard hits were delivered to ND, not from them. Or if we did deliver one, the guys was hurt. They are playing with discipline and are winning because it. In so many years past, not only would they not be 8-1, but their wins would have been close ones against inferior opponents, not 20+ point wins. I think that is why i have been caution to anoint them as great, because i want to make sure this sticks. also, its why i am ok if they don't make it this year because i feel like this is a system that can be maintained and not just a one year spike and back down. For coaches and programs that play hard, are their for the kids and look like they are doing it right, i got nothing but respect for.

After saturday, good luck to the future of your program.

BUT THAT WILL NEVER CHANGE. Convicts is just the term for impoverished black dudes that play for Miami. THAT is the entire meaning of the word convict in this case sadly. College football wants student bodies like ND, Penn State, Bama etc- they don't want Miami representing college football. It is the entire story line and really what fuels these players and the city.

I'm surprised the ND admin doesn't insist on shutting down the whole CvC thing. Very damaging to the reputation of the school, and must be a cancer on recruiting. What secular, non-white student/athlete would ever want to be part of that divisive community?

There it is

Not every single student. Just some of them

if i may, i would like to edit that, im afraid in my rush to get post that i came across saying that most at miami are. If it came across that way, i apologize. There are no more "convicts" at miami than any other school, ND included. It was a crap reference then, and i am annoyed that they are trying to bring it back. I will say that most ND fans that reference it, do it with ignorance of the time and moreso because that is what they relate to Notre Dame/Miami, not because they actually believe it.

i agree on what people are implying when they say convict, its terrible. Unless proven to be violating NCAA rules, Miami has just as much right to represent college football as any other team without being refereed to as convicts, thugs, etc. or that they play a different kind of football, or any other terms that can be used to somewhat imply that they are a bunch of black non-student athletes who couldn't go to any other school.

exactly, what drives me crazy is now people are saying that "ND needs to recruit more black guys". Im like really, you want to publicize it like that? How about ND needs to recruit people who are going to help them win.
