Notre Dame game thoughts

Obviously wimbush came back in and played. The rb had exams and was tired and not feeling well from a tough week. Lol

Wimbush has been banged up on and off all year unfortunately, still needs to learn to take a hit like a QB

I'd have expected your OL would have kept him pretty clean. This is not a good thing playing us, as we've tired out and banged up some of the toughest dual threat guys around. It's part of what we do schematically. We take out the opposing QB "from their game plan".

Its not hits during sacks really, its just when he is running and gets 10-15 yards down field.

I think historically, Notre Dame always gets overhyped by the AP. This year, I think they are the most legit they have ever been. Honestly, they should be #2 behind Georgia. Alabama has played nobody. Hoping for a great game. Great to see these teams playing a high profile game like this.

Im excited for this game and what it will show about ND. I can't 100% decide if they are deserving of a top 4, but i will know after this game. if they win, then i believe they are, if they don't, then i would rather lose now then get in the playoffs just to get beat up.

appreciate it man. I was surprised at the number of ND people on this board. I do this all the time to get away from ND fans, and at most ill run into one other fan. I think its pointless to come in here and argue. I just try to throw out facts and discuss the matchup. Hopefully i don't rub anyone the wrong way. Just enjoy college football.

You guys are coming off a great win, I would very much doubt there is any let down from that because in all likely hood if you beat ND, you guys are going to the ACC champ undefeated and fighting for a #2 ranking. But, kids being kids (haha) you think there is any chance emotionally this team comes out a little flat?

I gotta imagine that place will be one of the loudest stadiums all season. Although, i was surprised to see you guys only seat 65,000. Honestly, does it play louder than that?

If both teams are on their game, this could be an epic match up. Wimbush is much more dangerous throwing than his stats let on, but that defense is suspect. what has impressed me with this ND team is their physicality (minus the wake forest game) I have never seen a more physical notre dame team. They are not the most skillful defense, but they beat you with fundamentals. When they hit you, they tackle you, not bounce off like previous years.
The stadium has a partial roof that acoustically traps and reflects the noise onto the football field. 65k feels more like 85k at Hard Rock. No worry though, as the Miami/ND game is already sold out. Keep in mind that most Miami fans are not your Big 10 wine and cheese crowd. It will be loud.

Other stadiums are loud, of course, but there's something different about miami fans and bigtime home games (when the team is clicking). Miami is a "college town" like no other - the fans are nasty, loud and really are unmatched in these categories. In other stadiums, the students may be like this but in Miami, the students are actually the tamest of the sections. Miami gets its fairweather fan rep fairly but there when this team is clicking and the crowds start coming, the noise is tough to beat.

HRS is as insane said - lots of noise trapped and there is a lack of circulation so it gets HOT. I honestly beleive VT was surprised at how loud it was and it truly did affect them. I think it will do the same to Wimbush and ND b/c the game will be even louder.

This is the hottest ticket and venue this weekend.

Spent more money on this tix than last 2 seasons combined.. it's gonna be a mad house.. half the stadium gonna get carried out n punched by cops

I know for georgia/ND tickets were 400$+, is that comparable for this game? some went higher than 1k a piece.

Not that I disagree that the defense tries to attack the QB, but we haven't exactly faced a murderer's row of QBs this season, and certainly not the "toughest dual threat guys around."

not trying to sound like a homer, but i think he will be the best Qb you have faced yet. He runs very well and can throw way better than his stats show. He has a little bit of an accuracy issue, but its gotten a lot better. He just needs his receivers to help him out. He may only pass for 140 yards, but he forces teems to respect him as if he was throwing 300, which opens up the run game.

I think ND is going to see speed and size combination like they haven’t seen yet. On both sides of the ball. No team plays better when disrespected better than UM. With your qb making dumb comments and the “experts” picking ND and being the favorite, UM will have a chip on their shoulder. You haven’t played in front of a sold out hard rock night game where the crowd will down right nasty. This environment will be nothing like you’ve seen. It’s gonna be ugly. If UM gets out in front and keeps the crown in the game, it will be tough. Jump out on UM and get the crowd out of it, you’ve got a shot. We’ve certainly faced other slower Midwest or northern schools and lost in the past, so, we’ll have to see. But, with the disrespect coming our way; this is shaping up too nicely for UM.

You know, im nervous about this game, obviously. I think that it will be a close game. I think that we have played a couple teams (if you combined O,D, ST) that will help prepare us for this, but as you stated, not a team that has had strengths in all 3. I wanna try and watch a game, i have only watch bits and pieces of Miami play this year, so im not going to try and give an opinion on your team, ill just give opinions of mine. I think the crowd could be an issue. The speed issue i think is more of an issue for our defense then our offense. I think we actually have some speed on offense (not the typical slower midwest school). but i could see this game easily going into the 30s. Reading the threads i have noticed a lot of comments on the Wake Forest game. I was troubled by the lack of defense, but am hoping that was just a little bit of a let down after facing 2 ranked teams. This is not the Notre Dame of the last 15 years, but i am not sure they are a top 4 team either.

Here's something that ND needs to consider.

The players themselves may not have a memory of the 1988 and 1989 games. But many of our fans do.

I'm Catholic, much of South Florida is Catholic, and the whole "Catholics vs. Convicts" stuff in 1988 angered people in South Florida immensely. Our fans treated ND fans with great disrespect in 1989 (I was one of them) and it was well-deserved.

So the crowd noise and anger should be very pronounced on Saturday night. I would say "nothing personal", but I think it's very personal.

Paid double for nose bleeds than lower bowl against fsu

Yup, IMO, this is the first time the D really showed up. They showed up for 60 minutes, shocked me. If they can come out with that intensity it will be fun to watch. Without the 3 picks that game could have gotten out of hand for VT. I'm hoping that was a wake up game they played like the old Canes use to play.

The one take away I get from the GA VS ND game was, GA started a true freshmen QB @ ND with only 3/4's of a game experience. They still won! That shows me their coaches didn't take advantage of that, Or.....

We don't have one RB near as good as GA's two starters right now. Gonna have to find a way to open it up for our RB's. Richards must show up for this game. Get Thomas involved in post or crossing routes where he can use his superior cutting ability to burn a DB. No more of that deep route **** trying to out run a 6'3 DB, that's insane unless he's slow. Use Richards for that straight line deep route. Clean up the offense and this is a very good team.

ND has played one pretty good team on the road, that's it. MS screwed up early and paid the price. I'd say at home we are a much better team than MS at this point. ND has played it's last 3 games at home, now coming to SF, let's see how that works out for them. I think the coach has this team peaking at the right time. If our Defense plays lights out like they did against VT we are winning this game. I'm still blown away how the D played, **** that was sweet.
i think that its clear Miami that miami is the 2nd best team on our schedule. The georgia game was interesting. I believe, ND was leading almost the entire game. There was a very close TD call that gave georgia the win. It was one of those situations that could have went either way, but the call on the field should have stood and the initial call was an incomplete pass. I didn't believe they had the right camera angle to overturn it - and i would have felt the same way if it was called a TD initially. If that doesn't get overturned, ND probably wins that game. They did start a freshman QB, but with their system, i think you just have to have a fairly competent QB back there to win.

i guess your comment on your Rb's brings up a question for me. What is miami's "bread and butter" scoring option? Obviously for ND its rushing, Miami has put up some decent points this year, is it pass, running, defense?

the trip is concerning, but i think its a winnable game for ND. Im not saying ND IS going to win, but they are capable of it.

Stop that you’ve played 4 teams better than our best opponent. Even FSU would still beat a lot those teams. No question.

im not sure when that was said, but FSU lost to boston college and NC state, so there is that. I think your best opponent is VT, obviously. Which would be better, but close to, a team like USC.

Time to bring some of you cane fans down to earth a bit..ND might have best oline in country and should control LOS especially if the ND pass gm hits few big pass plays early to keep D honest. Wimbush is improving weekly with his passing and his confidence continues to grow. People forget coming out of HS he was 5* recruit top 5 Qb in country. In fact in hs his legs were secondary to his arm and he lit up good hs teams via the pass.. Anyway ND also has played a better schedule. Playing 4 teams as good or better than Miami’s best opponent. After facing UGA and NCstate front 7s Miami will not bring anything that Nd hasn’t seen. Question to me is if ND D of last week shows up or from prior weeks. That will be difference whether this is close back and forth gm or whether ND pulls away and wins comfortably. Watching both teams ND is the better team but maybe home field keeps it close.

You played 3 of those games at home, now you come to our house let's see how that works out for your best offensive line in the country, which they aren't. You gained a total of 55 yards on the ground against GA, that is not a top offensive line. You played GA at home with a freshman QB that didn't have a complete game under his belt and still lost. If Miami's D shows up like they did against VT, they are better than the GA defense. It's our offense that has to step up, can't have 3 picks.

I agree, i think that your defense will play very well. I dont expect 80 yard drives. I think we will break a few to keep it close and it will be up to our D to make a play or 2 to win it.

I disagree with the other poster. We have faced a murderer's row of QBs. Aside from teams that have played both Baker Mayfield and Mason Rudolph, we may have faced one of the tougher slates of QBs of any team.

Logan Woodside of Toledo is one of the best and smartest QBs I've seen all year. I am super impressed by him and I believe he's gonna be a NFL QB. He won't get drafted too high due to not checking all the measurables boxes, but he's a gamer.

Eric Dungey of Syracuse is the fearless leader of Syracuse's high powered offensive attack. Great dual threat QB. Toughest competitor we've faced.

Daniel Jones of Duke leads a strong offense and is a NFL prospect under David Cutcliffe's tutelage.

NCST has a good Senior DL for sure. But really all they are is one absolute stud in Chubb. But other than Chubb, they don't come close to being as talented.

UGA is a 34 team, so its tough to say their DL is good when they only have 3 of them and only Trenton Thompson is any good...he will likely be a top 3 round pick at DT. Their 34 OLBs are Lorenzo Carter who can rush the passer well and Roquan Smith who is one of my favorite LBs and will also be a top 3 round pick. After those 3 they really don't got ****. They definitely don't have any depth, and even their 3 best DL they have (I'll include their olbs just for sake of discussion) aren't even as good as our starters. In fact, I'd take some of our backups over their starters.

Even saying BC in comparison to Miami's DL is a joke, and so is Michigan St.
would never compare it, was just using comments ND has heard all year to help stage a question. ND was told that Michigan state would be the best d line, georgia would be the best d line, BC had nfl first rounders, etc. Miami is clearly better than BC.

The only thing ND has better than Miami is OL.
I disagree with that. I think ND has the advantage at QB, running back, OL. I think Potential for receivers is in ND's favor, but actual output, favors Miami. i think across the board Miami is better on D. We may only have 1 or 2 guys to start on Miami's D. Special teams, i think we have a great punter and kicker, but our coverage is suspect.

This will be a brutal battle in the trenches.

What I think is the X factor that hasn’t been considered by the national media and by Irish fans is what Canes Offense shows up.

If the Canes can do a healthy mix of ground and air attack, and move the ball on ND’s Defense, they will win this game.

agree, if ND's d can't come up with some big plays, ND won't win.

To that point, I think our Front 7 is superior to what the Irish saw at home against USC. That said, the Irish OL is a thing to behold and they will gash us at times. What Diaz comes up with will be interesting.
Im wondering if ND will bring out a few new formations/plays, or just stick with what they have been doing.

Ahmmon Richards - Braxton Berrios - Jeff Thomas

As to your special teams comment, interestingly, our coverage has been somewhat suspect as well.

Hey guys, i have been trying to start a thread, but it hasn't been released yet, so i'll go ahead and comment in here. ND fan (obviously), just looking to talk a little football, not here to troll, argue, etc. Just get too annoyed with ND boards, but love talking some football. I do this for all of ND's bigger games. Ill leave if everyone wants, but would like to stay and get some facts on Miami and share what i know (or think i know) about ND. ill give honest opinions of good and bad of ND and do my best to answer any questions you have. Let me know what you think.

Crazy pumped for this game, huge for both teams. Obviously Miami has more to play for after ND regardless, but with the playoffs as a goal, both need to win to help secure that (although Miami could lose and still possibly make it).

So basically, before i waste a bunch of time typing up stuff, am i welcomed?

fvck you

There it is....

Welcome to Canes Insight! :sneakiness:

Haha thanks. As long as there is still some football conversation going on, im good. Can someone breakdown Miami's offense for me? what are threats, weaknesses,x factors?

Crowd in it the whole game? Lol. The crowd was in it till the last snap of the va tech game. Every 3rd and 4th down. Even other downs. It will be much worse and for longer with an extra 10k rabid fans.

Something to keep in mind.If when the ND fans have their Ireland flags waving, it will look like Miami fans cause of the green white orange flag of Ireland being same colors as Miami. :peaceful:

clearly. Although i don't think the colors of the fans matter much. Noise does. Anyone have a guess for how many of the 65k will be ND fans? Were 5k given to Nd?
