The issue is who is going to spy on the QB. I love our LBs but Wimbush is a bit too nimble for Shaq, Pink, McCloud (maybe not him). Would be interested in see an Amari Carter type play a rover role for this purpose. But, that's why they pay Manny the big bucks to coach and not AUcane.
The thing that this encouraging for me is that everyone has had the idea of loading up the box to stop the run, but so far no one has really been able to, other than Georgia. However, i think the speed of your DB's will be something new to face. I think we are a better team then what faced Georgia though. Wimbush is coming along nicely. He really can throw much better then what the stats show, he just isn't getting any help from his receivers. they have the size and speed, but aren't very physical and have a case of the drops this season...
agree. They gotta bring some pressure. good speed on the edges, but not much up the middle.
I am a Cane fan since mid 70's and this game scares me. ND is a more complete team at this point and with more depth. If the Hard Rock is electric and we avoid turnovers, hope its close in the 4th quarter and let the magic continue. I would feel stronger with depth at RB and TE, plus Richards playing with confidence.

We play fast but man for man, our DBs are not particularly speedy, actually. Our 2 starting safeties are 4.6 types but they are solid football players that have good ball skills. Of our CBs, we have one guy who is a true speed guy (Young).

Honestly, the same defense that came up for VT, we should be good.
Force them to throw the ball. Put a spy on either side and let the LB's attack.

I watch football 12-12 every Saturday. Nobody & I mean nobody hits the QB like Miami. I think this is the biggest advantage we have. I think Wimbush is in for the shock of his lifetime. Plus his dumb comments don’t help when your looking across at 10 NFL players with 4-5 coming off the bench but I guess the kid has stones.
So some random stats, just FYI. ND has faced 3 teams currently ranked (assuming AP poll for now).
Georgia - #2
USC - #14
Michigan Sate - #13
Looking at their schedule, assuming everyone on their hadn't played ND. Its plausible to assume the following teams would be ranked:
Georgia - #2 /3
USC - #10
Michigan State - #9 /8
NC State - #2 0ish
Attached are a bunch of randoms stats if you care to look, kind of showing where the teams are that they played, and where they would be if they had not played ND. For example, NC state is currently ranked #31 with 131.2 rushing yards allowed per game, removing the ND game, they would be #7 with 107.9. Currently, ND has faced 2 in the top 10, and 5 above miami.
For total yards per game, Miami is #2 5, ND is #13 . Using this, Miami is the 2nd highest ranked offense in total yards ND will face, but NC state and Georgia would both be higher if they hadn't played ND.
In points per game, Miami is #39 , Notre Dame is #7 . Miami will be 4th highest ranked offense for ppg ND has faced.
Currently Miami has the #31 toughest schedule, ND's opponents so far average a #33 .
None of these stats mean much. some show good for ND, some bad. Just a few interesting ones in there. Won't mean a whole lot once the game starts.

ND has had the luxury of sitting their starters a lot this season in the 4th quarter, something that i have never been able to admit. I think prior to the wake forest game, Josh Adams had sat 9 quarters... So even then these stats were inflated because of points/yards in garbage time (i.e. michigan state)
You may be the first Irish fan that has gotten this much respect on a Miami board without the customary **** you so congrats.
As for the game we are coming out hungry and with an old canes attitude which could be scary. Fans will be an issue as we have been waiting for this type of game since 2002 season.
If we play as I think we can play and you guys still win big ups to you but I don’t think it is happening.

Diaz will bring the entire defense on a blitz to stop the run if he has to. He is hyper aggressive. Miami is #1 in TFL because of this. However, we do sometimes lose containment and give up big plays due to being over aggressive. Can ND make him pay?
ND likes to establish the run, once they do their offense clicks into place quite well. Georgia blitzed and stopped the run early, which discombobulated ND's offense. Can ND pass to open up the run? They might have to. If they can, they will score points.
Can ND's corners match up man to man with Miami's? Can the ND front 7 stuff the run without bringing the safeties up. Those are the keys of the game to stopping Miami.
Then there is the human factor. Whomever makes the most critical mistakes will usually lose.

appreciate it man. I was surprised at the number of ND people on this board. I do this all the time to get away from ND fans, and at most ill run into one other fan. I think its pointless to come in here and argue. I just try to throw out facts and discuss the matchup. Hopefully i don't rub anyone the wrong way. Just enjoy college football.
You guys are coming off a great win, I would very much doubt there is any let down from that because in all likely hood if you beat ND, you guys are going to the ACC champ undefeated and fighting for a #2 ranking. But, kids being kids (haha) you think there is any chance emotionally this team comes out a little flat?
I gotta imagine that place will be one of the loudest stadiums all season. Although, i was surprised to see you guys only seat 65,000. Honestly, does it play louder than that?
If both teams are on their game, this could be an epic match up. Wimbush is much more dangerous throwing than his stats let on, but that defense is suspect. what has impressed me with this ND team is their physicality (minus the wake forest game) I have never seen a more physical notre dame team. They are not the most skillful defense, but they beat you with fundamentals. When they hit you, they tackle you, not bounce off like previous years.

The stadium has a partial roof that acoustically traps and reflects the noise onto the football field. 65k feels more like 85k at Hard Rock. No worry though, as the Miami/ND game is already sold out. Keep in mind that most Miami fans are not your Big 10 wine and cheese crowd. It will be loud.

Wimbush has the ability to make you pay in the passing game, but i am not sure if the receivers do. Keep an eye out for stepherson and claypool. Those would probably be the 2 to do it if they can. The other thing is, which has been what ND really has benefited off of, is when you bring everyone, if you get past the initial line of scrimmage, its a huge play. I think this offense really took a lot from that georgia game, at least i did. It really did show me that they were tough enough to hang in a game like that, something they wouldn't of in the past. Im not sure if we would win in a rematch, but i like to think we could.
ND's corners are a hit and miss. Huge plays made, and huge mistakes made... They will man up with you, they really have to in order to give the front 7 a chance. ND is really fast on the edges, but can give up a lot in the middle. This is where i look for Miami to capitalize.
So far this year, ND has been careful with the ball. Only 3 picks (one by a backup in garbage time) The other 2 were the first 2 games of the year. I think they only have 1 fumble lost. And the defense is very disciplined and seems to have an ability to make other teams make mistakes, but im not sure if they can do it against this group.
-this is a huge question. hopefully they can hold up because i expect this to be close in the 4th!
