Not a single thread on Blake Baker

Fixing the missed tackles like the several we had on Toney should be a priority.

Baker admitted today that frierson was supposed to have help from the safety (Amari carter) specifically on that deep ball as he was supposed to turn him inside.

Baker also said he thought the linebackers played average

Very candid

Don’t say this. The big plays didn’t happen and Baker called the best game of all time according to the Golden Girls.

That's a simple-minded perspective (not saying you are personally simple-minded). The big plays happened and count. This is college football, and good teams like UF will make big plays. The fact there were only 2 of them, and that on the rest of their plays they really struggled, means he called a very good game.

Congratulations, I already said that. I said he called a good game but the YPP was too high. It’s incredible how this somehow controversial

1) Didn't see where you said that. You've posted like a half dozen times in this thread and I didn't bother to read through all 4 pages. But in the posts that I did see, you come across as a snarky curmudgeon looking to misinterpret statistics and build strawmen.

2) But you're also incorrect. While we would've liked a lower YPP, 5.6 would've ranked us middle of the pack in the country last year. Against a bowl-bound (or better) P5 team, who also committed 4 turnovers, it's actually not that high. Our defensive efficiency per FPI would've ranked us 15th nationally last year.

Blame yourself for your inability to read, not me.

It actually is high. We gave up over 5 YPP only twice last year. Against Toledo and when the team quit against Wisconsin. I’m not talking about some other rankings. I said he called a good game, put us in position to win, but the YPP was too high. Guys like you just want to argue to argue. I mentioned one area we can improve on and scumbags like you decide to personally attack me. **** off.

Our linebackers might be the most overrated group to ever play here.

We have a tendency to overrate a lot of players. Ahmon Richards and Gerald Willis were definitely round 1 talents as was Njoku.

Those guys were clearly on a different level of dominance. JT4 hasn’t even reached Ahmons level yet.

I think we have good players. The next time we have a solid round 1 or two type of guy we will know it.

Two plays the def gave up. Other than that a pretty solid game all around.

One of those mighty Gator plays was because too many MISSED tackles
I love our coaches being straight shooters on position groups and individuals performances. He’s absolutely right the lbs were average. Shaq and Pinckney are supposed to be the guys on D but they were almost invisible Saturday. Pinckney was at least. Shaq was decent at best.

Shaq was simply AVERAGE on Saturn night past. Nothing more, nothing less.

I said it a few months ago, and will say it again, there ain't no joy in those eyes. Anyone who ever had any doubt has lost their reptilian brain...you see eyes like that peering at you through the jungle underbrush, you have two choices....die or die...because a blood letting is about to commence.

Baker is looking like a solid hire. He did inherit a very strong situation though. While not perfect, the Defense played well enough to win.

I think Baker had a pretty conservative game plan. Like others, I would have liked to see much more pressure applied on Franks by our DL. With Garvin, Rousseau & Hill, we should have been able to pressure & sack Franks more than we did. Franks has terrible stats when he's forced to play under duress (that should have played perfectly into one of our strengths). His play could have really deteriorated had we created more pressure using our best pass rushers on the DL (Rousseau & Hill should have had way more PT). Baker's approach was successful though. Except for poor tackling in the first half & a few big plays, the Defense was good. I wonder if more could have been done though to rattle Franks without the excessive use of blitzing. Getting after Franks & really shaking him could have led to a W.

We gave up too many big plays. Pressure was scarce. Tackling left much to be desired. Giving up 24 points to a team NOT known for its offensive prowess is nothing to brag about.

Some don't like anyone saying that......well more of us didn't like watching it either

The D has to get much better. Fortunately for us UF is supposedly our toughest game.

Anyone claiming that the D is perfect as is ...or can't stand any improvement....is deluding themselves.

1st game aside, Do I think they can and will significantly improve? Without a doubt

Is he a solid hire? Definitely

Those are the eyes of guy who has a few severed limbs in his basement freezer .

And the D was great as others have said minus 2 plays which accounted for a huge amount of the little yards they gained. Really I had no complaints about coaching period . I had plenty about JT4 and the OL but that ain't for this thread.

Someone had to say our LB were average like I've been saying for 2 years now. Stop calling them elite they aren't. After the big catch from Florida it was 2 & 8 in the rezone and Pinckney had the play stop but he took a horrible angle. Pinckney has always been terrible at angles and containment. He tries to try to make every play (half the time he whiffs to) instead of trusting his teammate, playing smart, and forcing the ball carrier back to the middle of the field.
Gurvan took a terrible angle on that play as well. Toney was able to block both of them and spring Pitts to the 2....First and goal

Called a pretty good game.I was really surprised the D couldn’t get more pressure on Franks being as their Oline was supposed to be as bad or worse than ours.Other than that they gave up over a 1/3 of the yds they allowed on 2 plays.

I’ll live with that and I think when Ivey gets back it will be that much better.
