Norvell

The question is who would take over on the staff? I just do not see anyone on that staff getting another win or two out of them this year. So I am not sure what the point is. They won't be able to make a splash hire that will bump this years recruiting. So save the 5 mill, get the right coach at end of year, and poach the portal.

Herman.

This is exactly why they brought in tom herman as a staffer

Would Diaz be cheap? Just signed a new contract until 2031.

It'd be a dream for him to go to FSU, they'd be irrelevant to us.
I know that there are egos and old school ties but I think he would be foolish to leave Duke.

He can go 7-4 with an occasional better year and be celebrated there. I would much rather live in the triangle than Tally. Better recruiting area. Some smart people money.

I am assuming they would offer him more money but I don't see how they can afford for it to be anywhere in the upper echelons of P4 salaries.

If I were him, I would sit tight because he has a nice career in the works there.

If he continues to do well, there will be better opportunities in his future.

they owe him $51M -- and apparently that only drops to about $46M once the season ends.

So the savings is relatively “minimal” (in the grand scheme). Might as well fire him now.

What will be interesting is who they have to settle on. That will be dependent in part on what other jobs come available
The buyout is 85% of remaining salary. It drops weekly, and the reason it drops is because that money was paid as salary. All they’d save is 15% of mikes game checks for 2026.

$10,000,000/season / 12games/season = ~ 833k/game * .15 = $125,000/game savings on Norvell. That includes no expenses for having to pay the interim HC an escalator in salary.

It seems budget neutral enough that if they can afford it at all, they can afford it now.

It's amazing how the NIL has changed things. Back in the day you got croots by putting money into facilities and the stadium, but now if you give them enough cash the facilities don't mean a thing. FSU got stuck in the old days and they're paying, literally and figuratively, now. Not having a stadium we own is an actual advantage for us.

Their best bet as new coach is either Jimbo or someone like Tony Elliot.

Tony would be a home run for them.

Think so? Elliot was about to be fired under Chandler Morris saved him last year, they've already stunk it up against WVU/FSU this year

TrumpyCane saw someone before mention Willie Simmons, that be a decent cheap hire for them

I don’t care if Christ Jesus the Righteous comes down and takes the FSU job for $1.00 a year, they are still going to need a pant load for Assistant Coaches and NIL.

That’s just for him. The entire staff buy out will probably be closer to $70mm
That’s just the outgoing cost, factor in the incoming staff…+$100m!
Then you have to build out a new roster. No coach is gonna say, sure I’ll build a team on $20M. So if it’s $70M to clear house. Then say another $35-$45M in new contracts. Obviously not all at once, but still. Then their buyouts. Well shoot low and say $10M. That’s $120M roughly. Before any NIL money is spent.

That roster is **** poor, you’re looking at $40M to flip the entire thing. Not even saying they are gonna go gangbusters in the portal, but they might need 40-50 new players.

$160M would be a conservative number, in buyouts, new contracts and NIL. For a program hemorrhaging money, where does that come from? What booster do they have willing to write those kind of checks.

I trust that as much as a gas station boner pill. It literally has Norvell included in it.

It seemed like the plan has been in motion for weeks for a Jimbo return to Tally. The problem is FSU has no NIL money & Jimbo's offenses are horrible. The game of football had clearly passed him by at the end of his TAMU run. What Chip Kelly did at UCLA is what I think Jimbo will do his second time at FSU.

Even more than the original query found!
And even if that entire graphic is true. I’d be surprised how much of that actually goes to just football. Seems like a lot of it is facilities, and the athletic department as a whole.
