Norvell

i don't care about or follow fsu except we need to win. i am curious what made fsu think he was worth 50 million plus when they hired him?
What makes any these programs think every coach is worth a $50 million contract or a 10-year extension? Coaches who last decades and sustain success, like Beamer, Paterno, Saban, and Bryant, are the exception, not the rule.

Programs are handing out massive contracts based on potential rather than proven consistency. One great season, a playoff appearance, and suddenly a coach is being paid like a legend. Then, three or four years later, the school is looking to fire him and pay a massive buyout. I'm not saying coaches shouldn't get paid, but make them prove they can sustain success before you commit to tens of millions of dollars.

Anybody else catch the Game Day segment early on about Miami vs FSU?

Not much for them to really talk about but Desmond Howard had to chime in that Miami fans hope they beat FSU so bad they get Norvell fired.
On the other side of the desk the camera caught Saban say out of the side of his mouth to Herbstreit "be careful what you wish for" and they laughed...

I was dying....

Whatever happens with their search, I’m loving where this conversation is. “Can they even afford Manny”, Tony Elliott might be the best option, Willie Simmons or Jeff Taylor might be an option they can afford. I’m laughing

they owe him $51M -- and apparently that only drops to about $46M once the season ends.

He would be cheaper but id go after the DC from Indiana, Bryant Haines. Guy has been great at Indiana for several years and he was a great coach at JMU before that. Is young and unlike Norvell, historically has had to actually develop guys and mine for talent without having similar recruiting budgets (Norvell at Memphis had the top non power five recruiting budget at the time). Haines hasn’t been a HC but hes been consistently great and done more with less. FSU should have tried to hire Willie Fritz several years ago as well

At this point, Norvell must feel like a nasty fish hook caught in their lips. Live with it and feel the pain, pull it off and be lipless in Tally.

F Norvell and his eye roll at the pregame handshake. Even though I lost another 5 to 10 years off my life watching this game, I’m almost glad it played out the way it did. This loss stings him worse than getting blown out. Miami Shao Kahn’ed his soul tonight.
