He was too loyal to Allar. He let Pribula walk away and didn't bring in any competition. It was clear last year Allar wasn't able to carry the team at QB.James Franklin's problem was he stuck around too long at a program that has higher expectations than its actually capable of achieving.
He won a lot of games at PSU & was considered a hot commodity to the point he was even close to taking the LSU job in 2022 before Brian Kelly got the offer.
He should've struck while the iron was hot & left when he was at his pinnacle in terms of perception. The same mistake David Shaw made when stayed too long at Stanford, instead of leaving after 2016.
But, he did win 13 games at PSU last year & had them in the Semi's just 3 points away from the National Championship game, so it's not as though his rep is going to be completely destroyed by this downfall.
He'll still get a job somewhere else without much issue, it just probably won't be at a premier program.
Maybe it will be a "mutual parting". Depends on if he wants to hold out for the entire buyout. They shouldn't, but in today's CFB landscape the Money Men want results now more than ever & they're not going to be as patient as they've been in the past.
NIL & Portal has expedited the process of winning & building, which gives Boosters the impression they can buy a Championship & theoretically they can.
Which means, even for a Coach with a great resume like JF, will have a lot of pressure on him to deliver. Given that he usually loses big games & is now losing games he's supposed to win, that will be the catalyst they can use to justify moving on from him.
He's been there for 11 going on 12 years now; I would guess in their minds they've given him enough time.
This good Sir is entirely the point. They should have never been allowed to genuflect, then gloss over the horrific things that occurred there, by hiding behind “ We Are Penn State”. Without a complete exorcism of the Athletic Department, the fb program, the school, Admin and boosters, the whole f**king town is State College, and the 50 miles surrounding countryside. Only then could , and should there be a conversation about allowing their program and their lives continue in society. Start by digging up PaPa Joe and bury him in the paupers cemetery in an unmarked grave and take down that GD statue. Then lastly change your chant to “ We Are Repent State”. Sorry for the rant but they deserve it.It should never be forgotten that they shouldn’t even be allowed to have a football program.
The football Gods will never allow Pedo to win anything after the disgusting **** that happened during Paterno’s time.
Its a tier 2 Big 10 job
He was too loyal to Allar
Safe to say he's Mario 1.0?He is. Numbers don't lie. Won 9 games twice at Vandy. He's won a Rose Bowl. Won one B10 title.
Wait, what race is Franklin? I just thought he was a white dude with a nice tan.
Absolutely. Rhule probably wants the job and could convince someone he's 'turned' NU around but Cig is the guy.I would think Cignetti would be their guy.

If Mario goes 4-21 against Top 10 teams & no NC, over 11 years, Miami native, Alumni, and NC winner as a player, won’t prevent a squadron of banners from flying over HRS, calling for his head.Safe to say he's Mario 1.0?
Franklin is a good coach. He's taken Penn State as far as they can be taken in this day and age unless they bring in more money. It's not like they are Ohio State or Michigan. Franklin and Penn State need to go their separate ways.
Al Golden on Line 1?
Thought it was called DEI, not HR (JK JK)
Yeah, he could reduce the $48 million they owe him to like $47.9Maybe it will be a "mutual parting". Depends on if he wants to hold out for the entire buyout.
