I honestly can’t believe how terrible they are. I knew they weren’t good but I figured they were a 5 or 6 win team. I thought they’d crush NMSU and all their fans would be like “Mike’s back!” And overrated their team for at least one week. We didn’t even get that. They were in a dog fight with one of the worst FBS programs in the country. New Mexico State gets blown out by other CUSA teams weekly. This is the worst FSU team in my lifetime. The 2-10 DJU team would beat this team.

When you are playing inferior opponents, all you do is watch how much pressure you create on defense with your front/tfls/ stopping the run and also how you move their DL off the ball. FSU trenches look small as **** without me checking their statistics.

It’s true that most teams will keep their playbooks very vanilla for early season games against outmatched opponents. You’ll see P4 teams win games like 34-10 or 28-7 and it doesn’t look impressive. But if you watch the games, you see that good team was playing really conservatively and wasn’t making an effort to put up as many points as possible.

That wasn’t the case for FSU on Saturday. They came out trying to be aggressive and they wanted the game to be like one of the two they had last year against high school teams where they just lit up the scoreboard. But it didn’t work for them. As a matter of fact, they didn’t actually put the game away until the second half when they just started running the ball over and over against a really small and really slow defense. The more vanilla they got, the better they played. This was NOT a case of Norvell saving the playbook.

Exactly. Their passing looked vanilla because Daniels can’t read a defense and needs a clean pocket and all day to throw in order for his receivers to get open. Only then can he complete a pass. Or if he scrambles out of the pocket and buys a little time for his receiver to get wide open.

FSU was also running reverses and screens to Danzy, Singleton and Wisner. They just weren’t working for the most part.

I believe Daniels completed 17 passes and 8 of them were to running backs. They don’t trust him to throw the ball.
