Against Miami of 2012 (again, the weakest Hurricanes roster on paper in the last twenty years), Florida State has an average composite of .8851, while 2012 Miami had an average of .8646.

When averaging out the position groups, Florida State has an advantage in:

Wide Receiver: (.9004 FSU, .8748 Miami)
Tight End: (.8916 FSU, .8398 Miami)
Running Back: (.9108 FSU, .9037 Miami)
Quarterback: (.8758 FSU, .8494 Miami)
Defensive Tackle: (.8871 FSU, .8417 Miami)
Defensive End: (.9080 FSU, .8978 Miami)
Linebacker: (.8796 FSU, .8519 Miami)
Safety: (.8736 FSU, .8607 Miami)
Cornerback: (.9016 FSU, .8585 Miami)
Special Teams: (.7933 FSU, .7566 Miami)

2012 Miami only has the advantage in Offensive Line: (.8854 Miami, .8688 FSU)

That said, it's difficult to make the comparison as we have the benefit of hindsight to know that Miami's offensive line had multiple NFL players on it. Duke Johnson (a freshman in 2012) was an all-time Miami great. Allen Hurns (a three star recruit) became an NFL player. Stephen Morris, who was the third highest ranked quarterback in the room behind Preston Dewey and Gray Crow, but turned out to be one of the better Miami quarterbacks in the post Dorsey pre King era. So while 2012 Miami had just 20 blue chip players on paper, while 2026 FSU has 41, we know how the former turned out.

We don't know how the FSU roster will turn out. It's all on paper.

With that, the composite for Florida State in 2026 is on the downward trajectory:

2026: .8851 (41 blue chip players)
2025: .8909 (45 blue chip players)
2024: .8956 (46 blue chip players)
2023: .8807 (35 blue chip players)

Still, I think we're fooling ourselves by saying that this is automatically the worst Florida State team of all time. On paper, it has more blue-chip players on its roster than any Hurricanes team between 2010 and 2020. It might easily fail, and the program has no momentum in recruiting for 2027. But to automatically assume that this year will be equivalent to 1997 Miami...it's not automatic based on the overall talent.

However the fact that their offensive line is one position group that is weaker than 2012 Miami could be indicative that the entire offense could underperform or fall apart.

Agreed with the current roster. Which won 5 games last year. And then followed that up with a recent transfer-in class ranked at #28. That transfer class had TWENTY-THREE guys, only 3 of whom are blue-chip transfers. None of those transfers were high school blue-chips. NONE.

I'd also point out that 12 of the (composite) blue-chips on the roster were just signed in December. So unless some of those 4-stars (there were no 5-stars) are super-freshmen and ready to make an impact in 3 months, F$U is still a very bad team from a talent standpoint.

I am completely at a loss to see where F$U fans are expecting an IMPROVEMENT on the 5-win season. They will undoubtedly lose to Alabama and Florida. And they play 6 of the top 7 ACC teams from last year, almost all of whom (a) were ranked at the end of the season, or (b) beat F$U last year.

I see 4 wins for the SemenHoles.

And also the guy who handed out Norvell’s insane extension… why would boosters give to that guy? He’s going to be out the door with Norvell if they have any hope for the next coach

The mystery is the quarterback room. They brought in three transfers, have a second year four star HS recruited quarterback, and a four star true freshman. Who emerges, and how do they perform?

Jaden O'Neal (true freshman) was the second-lowest rated F$U composite 4-star, ranked #411 overall.

They brought in Ashton Daniels, a 3-star transfer from Auburn.
They brought in Dean DeNobile, a 3-star transfer from Lafayette.
If they brought in a third transfer, he was late and a big nobody.

The also have Kevin Sperry (second year), who was the third-lowest rated F$U composite 4-star, ranked #421 overall, even lower than Jaden O'Neal.

Obviously, the rankings are not the be-all/end-all of the conversation. But Ashton Daniels is going to be the starter, which means that the two 4-stars will not play much. And Dean DeNobile and Mystery Man aren't going to contribute, except on the scout team.

I'm just pointing out the difference between blue-chips on paper, compared to on the field.

As well as the "generosity" of using the blue-chip index for F$U, when a lot of the F$U blue-chippers are almost 3-stars. 8 of their blue-chippers in the past 3 classes were outside of the Top 400 (composite), and two are already gone (Mario Nash and Shamar Arnoux). And if those remaining guys had (or have) freshman years similar to what Malachi Toney did, I'll be the first person to give them their compliments.
 
The number of threads on their board with their mods saying a kid who visited won’t end up there or a kid cancelled a planned OV is actually unreal. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a lame duck coach recruit THIS bad. Especially when you should at least be able to pay a couple of kids to lock a bag in.

We was pretty bad in this board when we kept losing 3 and 4 star db kids to fsu and gators . I was still don’t understand how Rumph could recruit his own school . Someone ever figure that out

Heard they are even having trouble keeping their star athletes in all other sports.. They cant even pay their own superstars, maybe someone can confirm.. I think it was a softball player but maybe ttu was trolling them.
