You missed the best part of the thread. Bud Elliott followed up on page 2 that Alford tried to get ACC ADs to agree not to exceed the “cap” last November.

It is great watching those delusional fools realize they will never survive in the new era of CFB. Love watching the life drain from their eyes lol.

More and more every day it looks like they way over-extended with their resources by going all out in spending their money on updates and renovations to their facilities and locking themselves into a huge buyout with Norvell.

They essentially gambled that they were going to weather the storm of conference realignment and have some stability in their coaching staff and have brand new facilities to show off in their new conference. And for a program like Florida State that does not have a plethora of generational wealth via their boosters and alumni, these decisions were pretty much their best bet to continue holding up the house of cards their program was built on.

And unfortunately for them, the gamble did not pay off in pretty much the worst ways possible. I mean, that 19 game winning streak Norvell put together has to be the biggest dead cat bounce in modern American sports history.

I checked. It's interesting. Miami's top 10 players in 2012 had a higher overall overall composite average than FSU's this year. However six were true freshmen, whereas only two of FSU's are. A third is a new arrival (Wisner) who is a transfer.

Against Miami of 2012 (again, the weakest Hurricanes roster on paper in the last twenty years), Florida State has an average composite of .8851, while 2012 Miami had an average of .8646.

When averaging out the position groups, Florida State has an advantage in:

Wide Receiver: (.9004 FSU, .8748 Miami)
Tight End: (.8916 FSU, .8398 Miami)
Running Back: (.9108 FSU, .9037 Miami)
Quarterback: (.8758 FSU, .8494 Miami)
Defensive Tackle: (.8871 FSU, .8417 Miami)
Defensive End: (.9080 FSU, .8978 Miami)
Linebacker: (.8796 FSU, .8519 Miami)
Safety: (.8736 FSU, .8607 Miami)
Cornerback: (.9016 FSU, .8585 Miami)
Special Teams: (.7933 FSU, .7566 Miami)

2012 Miami only has the advantage in Offensive Line: (.8854 Miami, .8688 FSU)

That said, it's difficult to make the comparison as we have the benefit of hindsight to know that Miami's offensive line had multiple NFL players on it. Duke Johnson (a freshman in 2012) was an all-time Miami great. Allen Hurns (a three star recruit) became an NFL player. Stephen Morris, who was the third highest ranked quarterback in the room behind Preston Dewey and Gray Crow, but turned out to be one of the better Miami quarterbacks in the post Dorsey pre King era. So while 2012 Miami had just 20 blue chip players on paper, while 2026 FSU has 41, we know how the former turned out.

We don't know how the FSU roster will turn out. It's all on paper.

With that, the composite for Florida State in 2026 is on the downward trajectory:

2026: .8851 (41 blue chip players)
2025: .8909 (45 blue chip players)
2024: .8956 (46 blue chip players)
2023: .8807 (35 blue chip players)

Still, I think we're fooling ourselves by saying that this is automatically the worst Florida State team of all time. On paper, it has more blue-chip players on its roster than any Hurricanes team between 2010 and 2020. It might easily fail, and the program has no momentum in recruiting for 2027. But to automatically assume that this year will be equivalent to 1997 Miami...it's not automatic based on the overall talent.

However the fact that their offensive line is one position group that is weaker than 2012 Miami could be indicative that the entire offense could underperform or fall apart.

Nice , I just believe Miami is going to break them in the trenches and their qb is a big question mark . I could see them quitting but if we let them stick around ( conservative play calling it will be closer than what people want .

That doesn’t include any buyout of ACC commitments of the BIG and SEC elect to expand. And of course they’re paying g for those disgusting stadium renovations. I truly believe they’ll be left in the rump ACC conference after we get cherry picked by the BiG. Either that or the FL government will need to be a guarantor on their bailout/ACC-buyout loan..
