We were so flirting with being there many times, we always had those early hype commits that would bail out and make the right choice late in the process.

Manny had Bisainthe. But I believe we had only nine or ten commitments when Cristobal joined Miami. That said, almost all of them were blue chip recruits.

The 2011 class that Golden had to try to salvage was pretty weak.

5 stars: 1
4 stars: 3
3 stars: 10
2 stars: 3
Unranked: 5

The 4 blue chip players that we signed was the lowest total in the last 21 classes.

The 2015 class was also fairly weak.

5 stars: 0
4 stars: 6
3 stars: 16
2 stars: 2
Unranked: 2

As was the 2010 class:

5 stars: 1
4 stars: 6
3 stars: 21
2 stars: 1

agree it wasn't as bad but remember we would lose someone CIS thought highly of that was an actual jag. Like FSU losing this dude after a Wisconsin visit? He is probably a jag, we used to lose dudes under Manny after Nebraska visits and they were jags as well. But on CIS we thought those guys were good and they weren't. They are in a different place but similar cause I remember those sfla jags being just jags at Nebraska as well.

I remember we lost guys to Nebraska, but if they're who I am thinking of, they weren't poorly ranked:

Exactly, thats where FSU is at right now. Very similar, where on here a bunch of people thought these guys were legit players and they were just guys. But the circus with Nebraska on here during those recruitments were like FSU and Wisconsin. Two trash programs who are fighting for players who wont make any difference because they are just guys.
 
Here's a hypothetical question. If you were FSU with the resources that you have, how would you approach recruiting now? Would it be to go after what the old Dolphins GM a dozen years ago used to call "acorns"....i.e., high upside, lower rated kids, and completely avoid the arms race for blue chips? Save your NIL money to re-sign your high school recruits who outperformed?
