Tears Nole Tears (“Offcial”)

Norvell didn’t allow Gus to do it. Gus strong armed him into. His tried to “retire” last spring unless Memphis Mike handed over full control of the O
Correct, Gus forced his hand. "Allowed" was probably the wrong word. We know Norvell didn't just sit back and welcome that with open arms.

That's a good question. We do know last year that Norvell allowed Malzhan to install his offense and call the plays. I don't know how much Norvell got involved as the year progressed when FSU started to struggle, but that offense was clearly Malzahn's from what I saw.

I do think Norvell was much more heavily involved in '22,'23'24. After the '24 season, I think he backed off and gave the reigns to Malzhan. That may have also been one of Malzahn's stipulations coming over to FSU. Malzhan had full control of the offense. I really don't know for sure, but that's just my guess. Atkins was the fall guy after '24, but Norvell had his hands all over that offense. He just looked good in '22 and '23 when Travis was there making it work.
I guess we'll have to wait and see. They open with NM State, so we won't get much from that game, but then they have SMU and Bama right afterwards so we should know more after that.

I'm not even sure what to think about Jordan Travis as a qb. Obviously, he made that offense work. He turned into an outstanding college qb and was a winner.

Even watching some of their games with Travis as qb, it didn't feel like they were running some type of prolific and efficient offense. Wasn't like Travis was back there just picking apart the defense throwing dimes. I always thought he ended up scrambling around most of his drop backs, but he made positive plays out of it the majority of his last 2 years. He originally started out as primarily a running qb. He was FSU's leading rusher in 2020 and 2nd leading rusher in 2021. Honestly, I don't think he developed into a pocket passer his last couple years, but he did improve in his ability to keep his eyes downfield while scrambling around and being able to find open receivers. It's not like his accuracy was top notch, but he found a way to get it to them. Also helped he had NFL receivers on the squad that last season. Sure, that could be said about any qb, but I don't know how many times I though he just threw it up to Wilson and Coleman and they ended up making a play.

We saw what happened after Travis injury. Their offense was pathetic, even with a stacked roster on offense. That offense couldn't do anything against a depleted UF squad or Louisville in the ACCCG. Now, the defense stepped up those 2 games, but that entire offense was cheeks without Travis. So, I have to give Jordan his props. He was the perfect qb to run Norvell's sand lot offense.
He was a more polite and professional version of Manziel (entire career was made possible due to having Mike Evans on his squad.)

During the Johnny football craze I would watch the highlights every week and be like why isn't everyone hyping up Evans? Manziel out here throwing a bunch of jump ball ducks and yall wanna act like hes the next Steve Young.

Manziel was a better runner and slightly better passer, but I agree that he had a successful college career because of his ability to scramble and make plays.

You never want to see a kid get hurt the way Travis did and as much as I hate FSU, he was a really really good college QB

But the FSU doc about how they had to fold the football program is gonna begin with him getting hurt

Can’t wait
