Holy ****. I am ****ing myself right now.

So...UF and F$U...the two state schools that, until recently, received DISPROPORTIONATE amounts of state money to fund their schools, are "turning people away in droves"...which, of course, is a function of the growing Florida population...

Let me get this straight, the third largest state in the United States...which delayed building additional state universities...is somehow not the explanation for UF and F$U "turning away people in droves"...YES, it must be the "state Ivy" distinction that Florida has awarded itself, though I have NO IDEA why F$U fans think that F$U is so academically desirable...

As for Miami, we are apparently "hurting a little for enrollment", although "not a lot but comparatively speaking". Hmmm, I wonder what would explain why Miami is not "turning people away in droves" like F$U is...perhaps it is because Miami is a small private school that does not have as many freshman openings as F$U. Or perhaps it is because Miami is NOT a state school and has a $100K price tag for the total cost of enrollment (annually). So, you know, I don't know, but maybe the poor-o's of North Florida won't be applying to Miami...waaaahhh...

But since this genius wanted to speak "comparatively", sure, let's do so:

Acceptance rates:

Miami - 18-19%
Florida - 19-20%
F$U - 24%

Yes, Miami is the most selective school in the Big 3.

As for "taking a lot of out of state applicants", yes, that is what Miami has done for 100 years, since the days when F$U was the Florida State College for Women. And we don't seem to be hurting for applicants, given those acceptance rates cited above. But, hey, what if another 20,000 people applied to Miami next year, so that we could "turn people away in droves"? Good lord, that acceptance rate would decline to a single digit.

And to top it all off, that dope responded to a poster talking about living in a nice city with lots of amenities...by citing application stats...as if all those dopey F$U applicants are trying to live in Tallahassee for its big city vibe and luxurious amenities.
