I understand that superfans have to always root against rivals even if it hurts their own team. I’m just saying there is a once in a blue moon occasion where a rival winning actually helps us.

There is one time in my 'superfan have to root against rivals' life that a situation presented itself to root for a rival. In the 1989 season Orange Bowl game, I pulled for freaking ND; which I hate more than fsu. They played #1 Colorado and won. #2 Miami played Bama in the Sugar Bowl and won. 1989 National Champion was Miami.
In no situation yet have I had to pull for FSU to benefit Miami.
Do you pick and choose random games?
Disclaimer- I also hate the gaytor more than the Noles, but they haven't presented a chance either to better the Canes position for a championship

2000 orange bowl, if FSU won, we would have probably split the NC

On the other hand we can beat them and crush their dreams of making the playoffs as opposed to "potential" bowl eligibility but I understand the pleasure that sadists enjoy. We are all in part sadists.

We should have been in that game because we beat fsu on the field, was at that game.
I still could not chear for fsu to win the BCS championship game in hopes of maybe a split in the other poll

Ditto.

I remember arriving back home from New Orleans and finding myself rooting for for Oklahoma while simultaneously knowing we would be the crap out of both teams.

My family stayed in New Orleans an extra night and decided to walk past the team hotel. We wound up watching the game with the OL/DL and their families in the lobby. Zero doubt the next year would deliver a title after that.
