They were good on the ground partly because RJ Harvey was a really good back. Ucf fans were elated to see gus goHe doesn’t even run a super fast offense anymore. UCF only ran 68 plays per game last year. They were one of the best rushing offenses in the nation though and they averaged 5.8 ypc despite nobody respecting the pass. Which is the problem with Gus’ offense and has been the problem since he was at Auburn. The passing game is never good. Part of the problem is he will almost always pick the better athlete at quarterback even if he can’t throw for ****. Jacurri Brown played quite a bit for him last year and was dynamic on the ground and worthless through the air. His passing concepts are outdated and one dimensional. Where an Air Raid is popular for only using a handful of plays from a bunch of different formations, Gus only uses a couple of formations and only runs a handful of plays. At best his passing offense does enough to keep the defense honest against the run but without an elite quarterback (FSU doesn’t have one) they will really struggle to throw the ball consistently.
One reason UCF was able to pad their rushing statistics is that they would often fall behind early and instead of trying to score quickly to get back into the game, they would continue to run the ball heavily and opponents would often just let them. They had chances to beat UF and Cincinnati but they played with no urgency. Almost like the were okay with keeping it close and not risking anything even if it gave them a chance to win.
They had a bunch of talented runners. Harvey is a legit back. Brown had over 400 yards and averaged over 7 ypc. Penny Boone was a guy we were trying to sign before we got Martinez. FSU doesn’t have the talent UCF had at running back although Castellanos will probably rack up yards. They were good on the ground partly because RJ Harvey was a really good back. Scott Frost brought the program back from the dead 10 years ago. Heupel maintained that success and kept them relevant. Malzhan took over and they got worse every year under him. They were good on the ground partly because RJ Harvey was a really good back. Ucf fans were elated to see gus go
Well said. Gus is not an offensive wizard anymore. Everyone caught onto the scheme. He won at Auburn a bit cause he recruited well especially at running back and had a very good defense. Always had good backers and DL especially and had some dbs drafted. They had a bunch of talented runners. Harvey is a legit back. Brown had over 400 yards and averaged over 7 ypc. If the game were in Tuscaloosa, Bama would have an opportunity to do the funniest thing ever.

That's inspiring. He's doing it for all the little people.
Not going to matter that olBud Elliot also said on a recent cover 3 that they had no chance to install any offense in spring cause so many guys were missing. So that massacre will be something. Take bama to cover.
