I don't think we felt comfortable spending. I'll maintain that if not for their own incompetence, the NCAA would have hit Miami with a four year scholarship reduction of ten per year, and a two year television ban. We were the perfect target for the organization. We were well known enough nationally that a severe penalty would have meant something, but we weren't a blue blood so it would not disrupt the ossifying college football order.

The punishment was met out in 2013. For the next five years we were subject to the Repeat Offender clause; any subsequent violation would have qualified us for the death penalty. We might have had the money to spend, but to do so in any way that disrupted the CFB order (like Ole Miss a decade ago) would have put spotlights on us.

NIL was the great equalizer.

Holy ****, imagine basing a prediction for a 5 to 6 game win-turnaround on worse talent, but "better coordinators"....
