There was a lot more competition for the proven commodities this year. Building through the portal is like building through free agency in pro football. You have to over pay for everyone. Norvell has been there long enough to where he should have built up enough of a roster to where he shouldn’t need to replace half his starters with transfers every year. But he couldn’t be bothered to recruit high school kids. So now instead of having a nice pile of NIL money to offer a handful of high end transfers, he has to divide that money up between a large group and can’t afford anyone who’s actually good. This is the perplexing part. After signing proven guys like Verse it’s a 180. I suspect though, it’s the best they could do. With everyone dipping into the portal so much now, they are not a premiere destination. Only these former HS busts would entertain them as a transfer destination. All but guaranteed starting PT.
FSU’s roster is proof that even UGA and Alabama sign busts. Now, why FSU thought these guys would all of the sudden get good when they transferred is another story.
To be fair, I've heard the same here in regards to Shemar Stewart, Brandon Innis, and Jeremiah Smith.the best part of listening to FSU fans over the years is they would make themselves feel better by when they missed a recruit by saying they will portal to them eventually
such a beta mindset

You can’t make this **** up
Mike must subscribe to the same theory that some fans have that everyone UGA or Bama signs is a star. That’s why he signed their third stringers.Except that even when UGA and Bama sing busts they reload in high school recruiting. Mike can’t recruit high school at all…
I don't think it's that he 'can't be bothered' recruiting High School kids, it's that's he a weird **** that 17/18 year olds don't vibe with. There was a lot more competition for the proven commodities this year.
