No longer the parent of a UM Recruit

Congrats on getting your son this far. Hard work and dedication will carry him the rest of the way. Kid is going to be a heat seeking missile for us at LB.

Congrats. Love your posts. I am so happy Shaq will have a chance to play behind a 4 man line that attacks the backfield instead of dancing n front of him. I can't wait to see him blow up is first QB running for his life from Chad.

Amazing journey. We're behind Shaq and all his fellow recruits. Excited to see these young men develop into the next batch of Canes greats! Good luck!

Awesome. Young Shaq seems like the type of kid that will be successful no matter if football pans out or not.

I know it's popular to get all excited and talk about "bringing the U back" and all that but Shaq does look like a throwback to the days of the Real Linebacker U. Can't wait to see him hit the field.

Congrats.

It has been a surreal journey... Shaq's recruitment.. which has now come to an end. One of the first thing coach Richt told Shaq while he was recruiting on behalf of UGA the summer before Shaq's junior year...was the recruiting process will be exciting for you, but you will be happy the day it comes to an end. Well it has now come to an end... and I have to agree with coach Richt... I'm glad it is over. I will miss the excitement of the visits and meeting the other families on the trail... I won't miss opening the mail box and finding it full of recruiting propaganda. I feel I can write a book about this journey... the does and don't of the camp circuit, the visits, the calls and all the people you meet along the way. It saddens me a bit to close that chapter, but I look forward to the years to come. I can remember like it was yesterday coaching Shaq in Pop-Warner and it was yesterday when we drove off campus... starting a new chapter in his life. Since his commitment to the University of Miami.. the summer before his junior year of high school I have been a nervous Nelly following the chaos the ups and downs at the school... the whole time Shaq's dispositions was it will all work. His first offer to play D1 football came from Ron Dugan while he was working for Louisville and his first offer extended by a head coach came from coach Richt while at UGA... it looks like Shaq was right it will all works out. So this is my last post as a parent of a recruit... my next will be as life long fan and the parent of a Miami Hurricane.

Can't even lie..I had very little faith Shaq would stick this long. Esp after Golden was fired and McCloud decommited . Goes to show he wasnt all talk like some recruits out there. When he said that UM was his dream school and he was sticking with us, he was a man of his word. Cannot wait to see this young man progress over the next 3 years as the next great MLB at the U! Congrats!

Well maybe you should write a book, or at least an article about it. You are certainly literate and moreso erudite. Your son is lucky to have you and will appreciate it more and more over the years. Good goin' Dad!

Congrats to you and family. I look forward to watching Shaq & his teammates do their thing over the next few years and beyond. I hope he has a great experience at UM outside of football as well. His road to lifelong success is just beginning.

Go Canes!

Thanks for keeping us involved. Very cool to here about the inner-workings of recruiting. Shaq is going to do well here!

mods should make UKnowWhat a custom label so it says 'parent' instead of 'junior'. But congrats!! We're all very excited to see Shaq succeed both on and off the field.

Thanks UknowWhat, i’ve enjoyed reading your post. Hopefully as a board we haven’t been too demanding as I know it’s been a tiring process. I’m sure I speak for everyone in saying that we look forward to hearing about you family’s journey on campus as a member of Richt’s first recruiting class

Please know, the way you have conducted yourself on this board over the past year has made many of us big fans of you and Shaq. Best of luck and Go Canes!

Can't lie normally each recruiting cycle I follow heavy the corners and receivers cause I'm a speed guy like most, but because of your insight and Shaq's willingness stay even after the coach left he automatically became one of my favorite Canes on the roster. Thank you for your contribution and of course best of luck to Shaq

Thanks. Your insight into recruiting has made you a must read poster. Good Luck and Go Canes. See you at the games.

Write the book. May I suggest Willie Williams wrote the Foreword? Best of luck to Shaq in getting his degree and playing college football at the U. Looking forward to meeting at one of the tailgates!

Im happy for you and your family i could tell you feel good about leaving your son in the hands of the current staff, you did your job as a father you saw to it that your son made it out and did not get caught up in the street life but the journey is not over its just a new chapter your son is a true field general and he will round up the troops and help the u get that 6th ring.

We need to find out who is the next cool recruit parent. Unbelievable info we would never had any other way. Looking forward to seeing Shaq wrecking havoc
