how long are we going to hear about guys "free lancing" as an excuse for horrible coaching/scheme?
### Though Ufomba Kamalu has mentioned slight changes in how defensive linemen are lining up, Kirby said there are "not many changes" in how the team plays defense.
"Guys have to do their job," he said. "You can’t have a good defense if one guy decides to do their own thing. It’s hard in college to do [that]. You think about somebody else. You mess around and don’t do your job. "
For years, UM defensive coaches have tried to get players to stop freelancing. Apparently, the problem hasn't completely been eliminated.

Defense was #14 last season. But the points allowed was way too high. If this team cracks out a top 15 total and scoring defense then I will say to watch out.
#14 at what?

This could mean a shift from head up alignment to shaded alignment. Maybe he's just talking about stance? Either way. This could very well mean that we're looking to base out of an under-shifted front, where we play something of a 43 under with mirrored personnel Maybe he's talking about a change in alignment strictly for the End and Tackle positions, where they would bump inside to 4i techniques (inside shade of Guard), with the Nose remaining at a 0. It would resemble something of a bear front. Maybe they're looking to do what the Seahawks do run some sort of hybrid, where players that excel at 2 gapping play head up techniques and other players that excel at 1 gapping play shaded techniques. Who knows?!?!?!?
...is the season here yet?
Scheme is the least of Golden's problems. The team doesn't believe in him. That's why they quit on him every year. You'll never win with a HC that the players don't trust and don't buy into what he's selling.

You're right. That ship sailed away about two years ago. It's funny though, around the same time people were critically questioning the defensive scheme the players started quitting. I can't lay all the blame on AL's scheme because the symptom of bytching-out was imbedded before he arrived in CC. This program has been in a funk for over a decade. Al's stubbornness over scheme has just exacerbated the dissatisfaction of a fan base that's totally fed up with mediocre Hurricane football.

People keep whining about the scheme and Dorito because they don't understand the importance of leadership and the tone that the HC sets. The offense is just as ineffective as the defense. And the STs suck too. This isn't a Dorito or defensive scheme problem; it's a UM problem.
Our teams are soft, slow, mentally weak, not invested, and they quit at the first sign of adversity. Been that way for a long time. Strangely enough, it's been that way since we've been hiring **** HCs.
