No changes will be made to the defense

They ask players to often play a complicated read-based defense, and if the player misses his read or acts too aggressively, he's 'freelancing'.

Meanwhile, the system that has produced some of the worst defenses in school history? No blame on that.

I was under the impression they took your personnel suggestion of Bush to CB under consideration. Are they arrogant enough to ignore you?

If the kids don't get it, and are making mistakes that lead to blown coverages and big plays..... Ummm, maybe change the D to one that ALL your players can grasp. We didn't have rocket scientists on D when we were good. We had guys that understood their roles and didn't make many mistakes. This D simply doesn't create turnovers, sacks, or cause problems generally for the O. That must change.

### Though Ufomba Kamalu has mentioned slight changes in how defensive linemen are lining up, Kirby said there are "not many changes" in how the team plays defense.

"Guys have to do their job," he said. "You can’t have a good defense if one guy decides to do their own thing. It’s hard in college to do [that]. You think about somebody else. You mess around and don’t do your job. "

For years, UM defensive coaches have tried to get players to stop freelancing. Apparently, the problem hasn't completely been eliminated.

This could mean a shift from head up alignment to shaded alignment. Maybe he's just talking about stance? Either way. This could very well mean that we're looking to base out of an under-shifted front, where we play something of a 43 under with mirrored personnel Maybe he's talking about a change in alignment strictly for the End and Tackle positions, where they would bump inside to 4i techniques (inside shade of Guard), with the Nose remaining at a 0. It would resemble something of a bear front. Maybe they're looking to do what the Seahawks do run some sort of hybrid, where players that excel at 2 gapping play head up techniques and other players that excel at 1 gapping play shaded techniques. Who knows?!?!?!?

...is the season here yet?

Golden and Donut need to be in church every day thanking god that they were born Caucasian because that's the only reason that they are still being given the benefit of doubt or not fired! Only thing my American experience can point to as to why these ohhh so obvious football idiots still have a job! Worst defenses and collapses in program history and it's acceptable for them not to make changes. If a Black coach and DC did the same they would be openly questioning their intellect. This **** has no understandable rationale other than that! They go visit Seattle and Dallas and not make changes? Simply astonishing!

Under this staff, nobody would have ever heard of Ed Reed. Maybe the greatest safety to ever play in NFL would have never seen the field under Al frigging Golden. You can throw most of our great DTs into that pile also. Al has no use for talent or aggression.

Defense was #14 last season. But the points allowed was way too high. If this team cracks out a top 15 total and scoring defense then I will say to watch out.

The offense with all its NFL potential stars did not score enough points. Coley needs to get his act together this fall. 18 to 24 points will not win many games with todays offenses.

Speaking of stance if we could just eliminate one set of techniques it would go a long way towards improving the overall efficiency of the defense. Other than special situations, just use one stance and one set of techniques (shade). Keep it simple and fundamentally sound. The same can be said about our secondary play, too. We do so much junk back there until it's hard to watch. I still have no idea what we're relatively good at out of two deep or single high. Our field leverage has been ***-sucking poor. We will see if that trend continues this year.

Scheme is the least of Golden's problems. The team doesn't believe in him. That's why they quit on him every year. You'll never win with a HC that the players don't trust and don't buy into what he's selling.

This stupid defense causes the players to think too much...let them be aggressive!!!!! Miami players attack! To **** with that read and react penn state/Virginia defense. Coaching staff is the reason why nobody respects us anymore. I'm ****ed off.

You're right. That ship sailed away about two years ago. It's funny though, around the same time people were critically questioning the defensive scheme the players started quitting. I can't lay all the blame on AL's scheme because the symptom of bytching-out was imbedded before he arrived in CC. This program has been in a funk for over a decade. Al's stubbornness over scheme has just exacerbated the dissatisfaction of a fan base that's totally fed up with mediocre Hurricane football.

People keep whining about the scheme and Dorito because they don't understand the importance of leadership and the tone that the HC sets. The offense is just as ineffective as the defense. And the STs suck too. This isn't a Dorito or defensive scheme problem; it's a UM problem.

Our teams are soft, slow, mentally weak, not invested, and they quit at the first sign of adversity. Been that way for a long time. Strangely enough, it's been that way since we've been hiring **** HCs.
