NFL Draft Discussion Thread

I hate my Dolphins I swear. While DE was a need we signed a couple already this offseason. There were too many other players we passed on at a higher position of need IMO. Reuben Foster, even though he had red flags was a must. Peppers would most likely start at SS immediately. I think he will be a really good player. We need corners badly and Tre'Davius White from LSU was there. He's arguably the best CB in the draft. Our OL is still shaky. Cam Robinson would have been lovely. Even though we just traded for Julius Thomas, I wouldn't have minded taking Njoku. He would have immediately been better than that scrub Fasano that we just brought back. I swear our front office since Jimmy left has been horrible at best. Before yesterday I had never heard of this Harris cat we drafted. Someone that has watched him play please help me step off the ledge!

This is what this so called NFL analyst says about Corn:

An undersized corner with below average ball skills, Elder shows quality instincts and discipline in coverage. He's also an outstanding run defender for a corner and limits production after the catch despite his smaller frame. -- Steve Muench

While he's not huge, he's not 5'8" or 5'9" and to say he has below average ball skills is far from the truth. Hope Miami snags him in rnd 3.

My only question after the 1st round is, who is Cleveland's QB? Do they actually go with Osweiler this season and then draft their guy or trade up with all of the picks they've accumulated?

They may not have drafted a QB yet but they hit the jackpot in rnd 1. Garrett, Peppers, and Njoku... WOW. There are plenty of other QB prospects they can still draft.

The Dolphins signed one DE, a 31 year old past his prime. They needed to find a replacement for Wake and also find someone who can actually rush the passer, which Andre Branch and William Hayes can't do. The players I preferred didn't even get drafted in the 1st so the GMs and scouts know better than we do. Reshad Jones is our starting SS and a top 10 player at his position, no need for Peppers to do the same thing. We need a slot CB but no smart team is going to pick one in the 1st. White isn't even a top 5 prospect at his position let alone the best in the draft. Robinson, like Foster, has off the field issues. His best position would be RT and the Dolphins already have one. Njoku would have been great but as you said, we already traded for Thomas. Fasano is the best blocking TE in the NFL and will help Ajayi run free. How many teams use two TEs?

Harris is one of the best pass-rushers to come out of the draft. Coach Kool product that will follow in the footsteps of his peers; Shane Ray(12 career sacks in the NFL) and Markus Golden(16.5 sacks in two seasons).

Deshone Kizer, Brad Kaaya, and Davis Webb are still available.

GMs and scouts have more information. Other than that, they're human with lots of human flaws and assumptions. They're continually guessing their asses off. It's why guys like Malik Hooker, Conley (off field issue), Foster (shoulder concern) and a host of others are as likely to be very valuable picks as some of the guesses who went before them. Cam Robinson may not be a LT, but he's now a value grab as a RT/RG.

We'll see a whole bunch of players slide unnecessarily, like Corn Elder. Last night, we saw the best in the business (Mike Mayock) fumble all over himself to call out Fournette to the Bears - not realizing they have Jordan Howard (until he may have been told in his earpiece) before correcting himself. Again, these are human beings processing information - not IBM's Watson.

Harris is one of the best pass

We signed 1 DE and traded for 1. Reshad Jones is playing FS not SS. The guy we signed to play SS to a 1 yr contract is suspended for the first 8 games. We have needs everywhere but IMO DE was lower on the pecking order than LB, SS, CB, and OL.

I am hoping like **** Miami takes Corn in rnd 3. He will play a lot. Our secondary outside of a recovering Jones is a mess.

He would've immediately started at the same position Reshad Jones plays? Yea, no.

Dolphins need a pass rusher desperately. Wake is 35.

These are human beings processing information that aren't very good at their jobs. Most of them are lazy blowhards that don't do any real research that isn't spoon fed to them by their producers and research departments at broadcast time. It's one thing to guess wrong, it's quite another to not even have a basic understanding of team personnel.

I wouldn't last long if I did my job this poorly.

At 22, with what was there, I was hoping they'd grab Foster or Conley. I do understand the need to find someone to supplant 35 year old Wake. Could have gotten a similar (not exact) risk/reward with some later round DEs and used the #22 overall for a better risk/reward value. Oh well.

Preach. I find it really frustrating, but understand it's based on the incestuous nature of the NFL (and other sports, though there's a stronger movement to analytics in the NBA, for example).

How Jeff Ireland gets another job (the man who selected Pat White does College scouting for the Saints) so easily tells us all we need to know.

My only question after the 1st round is, who is Cleveland's QB? Do they actually go with Osweiler this season and then draft their guy or trade up with all of the picks they've accumulated?

Deshone Kizer, Brad Kaaya, and Davis Webb are still available.

Add Peterman and Dobbs to that list.

Really not much difference between any of those guys. I'd probably argue Kizer or Peterman would be the best fits for Cleveland. And neither is a day 1, plug and play QB.

It seems they're better off waiting for the next wave of QB prospects. Sans Kizer, none of the current guys on the board are significantly more interesting than Cody Kessler.

I think Hue Jackson has a good offensive mind and they seem to be adding some nice pieces. Depending on who they add on the OL Kaaya could go there and learn for a yr or 2 and be a decent addition. Although, being from California, I could see SF drafting Kaaya as well. They desperately need a QB.
