Normally I would agree with this but due to roster management, I have to disagree and this is why.
Miami already has 5 seniors on next year's roster with two available scholarships that need to be filled.
Brooks, Miller and Wardenburg all graduate and that leaves Deng Gak as the only big on the roster for the 2021-22 season.
Miami needs to use those two scholarships on two bigs to add depth to the roster, especially for the 2021-22 season.
I know, this is hoping Coach L uses all 13 of his scholarships but it is a must.
Adding a grad transfer point guard would mean Miami has 6 seniors on the roster and it is highly unlikely Miami signs 6 high school freshman and even more unlikely Coach L plays all of them.
Personally, I am tired of adding transfers, waiting a year for them to sit out and hoping they don't get kicked off the team for the hope of a good season after two sub-par seasons.
Truthfully, everyone needs to improve. Lykes, Beverly and Wong need to improve on their decision making abilities. McGusty needs to be a consistent scorer, Sam needs to be aggressive all season, Rodney needs to get stronger and improve his conditioning along with his skillset, Nysier needs to be the guy some of you are hoping and not the 8 point, 6 rebound guy I saw in the Cincinnati highlights, Deng needs to get healthy and stronger which means he may not play next season, Anthony needs to study film and learn to recognize situations, Earl and Matt need to be prepared to contribute and the two bigs that get the last two scholarships need to redshirt because Coach L deeply believes in seniors and they probably will not play. That is fine because they are needed more for the following season.
Most importantly, the coaching staff needs to change their approach to using all 13 scholarships, Coach L needs to stop sitting freshman for the entire game for 1 turnover, Coach L needs to add more sets to his playbook, the assistant coaches need to help each player improve their skillet. The strength and conditioning coach needs to have every player add 15 lbs of lean muscle and drop their body fat percent by 5%.
Finally, the players who played at Miami in the last 5 to 10 years need to come back to Coral Gables for a month in the Summer to play with the current teams and show them how to become better basketball players.
