Next Year and Officiating

While ACC refs are absolutely incompetent, don’t forget the two targeting calls in the Ole Miss game were the Big Ten being crooked and the worst call all year was the SEC negating an untouched Brown for a TD.

I would like to think the ACC seeing we can make it to the Natty, will level SOME of the calls we get.
When you put humans in charge of making decisions that can't be challenged, you will always have bad calls because of it. You are right, but the sheer number of calls from ACC refs made those calls bearable.

Having 4-5 questionable calls >>>>>>>> 50+ calls made in clear and obvious bias.

Simple: be more disciplined and so much better than all other teams that the refs can’t impact games even if they are gambling. Had our offense been more productive, we are 13-0 with a round 1 bye. While I hate the acc and the acc refs, 2026 should take this team to a new level that even the acc refs can’t impact.
That's easy to say, but then ACC refs start throwing false start flags because our offensive lineman blinked too hard. ACC refs know how to impact games and make games about them.

I don’t recall ever seeing a procedural call against that wasn’t correct. Same with delay of games, same with face masks and late hits.

Holding or no holding
Targeting or no targeting
PI or no PI

Those are the primary calls that are too opinion driven

Reuben Bain - 7 sacks against non ACC opponents
2 1/2 against ACC opponents hmmmm....

Holding Hold The Line GIF

Many of our penalties during ACC play were procedural which had nothing to do with the refs to your point.

We play disciplined football this 2026 season will be loads of fun
what about Malis phantom fair catch? Baumans infinitesimally small lean up field while motioning? Kevin Jennings non sack fumble or Malis OPI or the picked-up PI/bs slip and fall holding?

The ACC refs are blatant and endlessly creative when it comes to putting the screws to Miami

A bunch of our false starts were due to d lineman simulating the snap and not getting called for it

I used ChatGPT deep research after the SMU game and it backed up what we all would expect. Since 2012 we regularly are one of the most penalized teams in the country while our opponents are in the bottom 10 or 20 amount of penalties every year.

It’s pretty astounding stuff. Check out the screen grabs that explain it all. The most damning anecdote for me is Navy and Army are the only teams who have similar low opponent penalties every year, but both those teams also have an extremely low amount of penalties called on them, while we somehow lead the country almost every single year.

The DLine can stem. It is up to the offense to either snap when they are mid stem to stop the **** OR just ignore it. Heck, our DLine could do the same thing but doesn’t. Personally, it is bush legal and I’d like to see it removed from the game BUT it isn’t against the rules.

What is against the rules: clapping when the QB uses a clap.

I hope we get to the point where we can get hundreds of yards of penalties and still crush teams like we did in the Cotton Bowl vs Texas back in the day.

Difference is those were mostly fouls for celebrations. There were some unnecessary roughness calls but a lot of it was not in the midst of a drive or extending the opponents drive.

No need beating a dead horse, but ACC officiating is the worse - don’t want to hear BS about replay transparency, either. Sounds silly though wonder if we’re too physical & aggressive that they’re intimidated by our style of play. The lack of offensive holding calls is also beyond comprehension.

Ultimately, the 4 major conferences need to create a single or universal officiating pool. Need a concerted effort to improve officiating as there’s now so much money in the game between playoffs, coaching salaries, NIL & most importantly the broad access to gambling.

If you dig deeper and remove the 4th quarter penalty yards for opposing teams it’s probably disgusting. That’s where they make it look even on the box score.

Tbh, we got away with some pretty nasty play. Like when Jakobe targeted and cracked Mendoza's chin well after he had let go of the ball.
Not a complaint. It's all in the game.
