News flash- run defense.

Jones broke his collarbone just 3 weeks ago and i know ppl heal differently but that's way too early and he's hound to go down again on the first sack

Josh Jackson broke his leg

Francois is bad

Not too worried about any of those

Francois has done an admirable job propping up an otherwise dumpster fire of an offense. He's taken more bone-jarring hits per game than any QB in recent memory.

Akers is avg. 4.1 yds per carry (against not great competition) and Partick 3.8, so far this year. We struggled against them last year, 43-244, (Akers 20-111, Patrick 11-91). Hpoefully we shut their asses down. Frenchy will not beat us by himself.

Help me out KW, cause I agree with you to a certain extent, UVA and that mutherfvckin terminator clone from Cuse who just wouldn't die, despite us giving him like 5 concussions, those guys concern me, and always will to a certain extent with a Miami defense that is focused on getting upfield and attacking...

That said, I don't really get all the concern right now. Didn't all the teams we've played so far this year get their QB running yards on us after we were up big and playing the pass, looking to stop drives with big plays, but willing to give up some yards on the ground as long as we kept everything in front of us?

I don't really get the concern about the NC game, and wasn't concerned watching the game myself. Guy would break a couple runs for 15 yards here and there, but then he'd get debacled for a huge loss or turn the ball over and it's like "threat neutralized". Don't get the hyperventilating.

We need to keep those running lanes closed against FSU on Saturday as well, Frenchie and crew can run, but hey, so could ND. If we're up 35-10, though, and they run one for 15 on a scramble where we were a cvnt hair away from killing a guy, I think it just makes you sound stupid when you turn to the fan next to you and shout "see mang, this what I been talking about, we need to fire that fvckin Manny guy!" Yeah, ok, cool football knowledge, bro.

MD it just seems like we have had bad luck with running QB's like forever. This Kid at UVA is fast as **** and if he hits one of these open lanes against one of Manny's crazy blitzes he will be a problem. We will need to put a spy on him at the least cause I don't think he can beat us throwing the ball so we just need to control is running.

I love the aggression of Manny's Defense but to play like that you have secure those running lanes and a lot of times we seem to forget them.

And he can’t run himself as he isn’t all the way healthy

If you were in the stadium last Thursday for the first quarter, it was hard to watch us get gashed on the ground. That shouldn't happen to a good run defense, especially at home.

With how bad UNC QB's looked throwing the football, they shouldnt have ran for 100+ yards in the first quarter. JMO

Yeah, you are absolutely right. And our issue with running QB's includes our glory years. At the same time, we **** near killed Michael Vick when we played against him.

I think we can fix it when the focus of our defense is on keeping the QB contained. Put us against a team like UVA, whom I admittedly have not had the opportunity to watch at all yet this year, with a dynamic running QB and average talent everywhere else, we can deal with that, I think/hope. Put us up against Bama with Tua and a bevy of 5 stars at every other position, and it's quite likely to get ugly.

I guess my point is, as a defense, it's very difficult to take away everything an offense can do. Back in the day, we owned option teams like Nebraska and OU because we took away their running lanes. If they had QB's, receivers, and a game plan to beat us deep, it might have been a different story, but they largely had glorified RB's playing the QB position.

You take away what the opponent does best and live with it when they make a play here and there doing the things that they aren't as good at.

This Satruday, we will see how well we do. We know Frenchie is going to keep coming no matter how hard and how many times we hit him. We better be ready to play disciplined and keep on hitting them.

Idk I remember Akers and patrick getting the chunk of those yards on like 4 carries. For the most part they were ineffective.

Yes they had 112 yards rushing when they scored their TD at the 8:12 mark of ths 1St quarter. Rest of the game3 and a half Quarters they had 103 yards rushing. I give a plus 10 to the defense for adjusting on the fly and effectively shuting the run game down the rest of the game. Just my humble opinion

Brock, do you even look into the games that you start threads about? You know Bama gave up like half of those rushing total yards when they were already up 56-0 correct? Go look at the play by play and get back to me about Bama struggling against the run. You need to learn how to do more research before starting threads like this.

Lafayette didn't have a single drive that gained more than 28 yards until after Bama was up 56-0.
